Caught out!!!

Hi Folks, Just want to share a story of a incident I was involved in this morning, I’m not the perfect driver and hold my hands up if/when I make a mistake…

Driving up towards a round about, road is clear as you would expect at 07:30 on a Sunday morning, no traffic in sight but I still slow down a bit on approach to take the round about smoothly, only other “thing” around is a guy jogging. He is jogging round the round about towards the give way line I am approaching, looked like he was on the grass verge and not on the road, turns out he was on the road, and as I approached I was expecting him to stop before crossing the road, and turns out he was expecting me to stop at the give way line as he considered himself to be on the round about.

So I jammed on the brakes and the horn (Horn just in case he was wearing head phones, might be able to get out the way in case I couldn’t stop in time.) The fella stops jogging turns round and walks round to my window and says “At round abouts’ you give way to traffic coming from the right, there is a give way line right there (and pointed to it)” before jogging away and nearly getting ploughed by a white mini bus that, unlike me, had no intentions of stopping for a jogger.

If it was a cyclist on the round about I would had given way, just wasn’t expecting to have to give way to a jogger. Luckily he wasn’t a few seconds later, as I can a sure you guys this… the mini bus would never have stopped like I did. To play devils advocate, if the mini bus was in the lane behind me as I approached this round about, and I did stop, it would have went straight into the back or me, possibly killing my faithful hound in the boot of my estate car.

Guys be honest, if you were behind me would you be expecting me to stop for a jogger at this round about?

No mate.

Pedestrians do have the right of way on any road they can legally use (ie, not motorway class), but you would NOT expect a jogger to use a roundabout and expect right of way to be given to them.

I’d say he was probably high or out for confrontation and wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Was he indicating■■?

I believe you should give way to pedestrians at all times. Anticipate that the jogger using the roundabout will continue running and be ready to stop if necessary. By slowing in anticipation of the above you should, effectively, control any following traffic and avoid them running into the back of you…hopefully!
A few seconds of easing off in anticipation/observation will have prevented the confrontation and saved you some fuel and brake linings

Simple…Tell him to ■■■■ off and run on the path.

Exactly, don’t risk points, losing your licence, or jail by downing a pedestrian…no matter how big a ■■■■ he is.

As a jogger/runner he was in the wrong. Mainly due to be on the wrong side of the roundabout!! I’m sure someone will pitch in and correct me if I’m wrong…but aren’t runners etc supposed to run over on the right hand side of a road into oncoming traffic for safety reasons.

On that principle he would of approached the roundabout and preceded to go round it the ‘wrong way’ into traffic, which I believe to be correct & far safer.

Wonder if said jogger will stop for a pedestrian tomorrow morning on his way to work, knobsack of the first degree.

Tell him to jog on.
A traffic cop told me if walking on a road, you face oncoming traffic and not have your back to it.
At least you can jump in the hedge if a loony is gunning for you.
In built up places,i lock the cab doors, put the windows up and the radio on to drown out verbal abuse or some nutter could you pull you out the cab for road rage.

Don,t wanna cause probs, in america thats called jay walking, France they have designated crossing points, only in lay down England us mug Truck drivers have to give way to every bugger, the pedestrian should have stopped at the sound of a horn he was not at a pelican crossing point or nothing, get this type of crap in London all the time ■■■■■ me of big time,

What’s the law like elsewhere with what would become a CD on one’s licence over here?

I understand you still get a CD endorsement - even if someone runs under your wheels on a motorway… “Pedestrian has right of way at all times” kinda argument.

sounds like another great member of the public who think they have the right to upset your day.
I would of just said jog on, while you can still use your legs

As much as we try and keep momentum to save us from going through the gearbox everytime, the thing to remember is 1. we are expected to stop at every roundabout/ junction and 2. always ask yourself if you would have done the same whilst on test ? that last statement always seems to answer my question every time.

Should have run him over then gone back to be sure he wouldn’t be able to complain.

But in reality, stopping was probably the wise choice!

I would say correct, Rule 2 for pedestrians.

gov.uk/rules-pedestrians-1- … nce-1-to-6

But follow that rule and you’ll probably have a cyclist barge into you :open_mouth:

No, the pedestrian is wrong. Just cos he’s in the road don’t him a vehicle :exclamation:
It don’t look a busy roundabout and you’d have thought he could have let you go. Self preservation here, if you gonna run/walk round a roundabout (pretending you’re a car) you are gonna get hurt.
The jogger is a fool.

7 D&E pretty much puts this to bed.

Darwin Dodging pedestrian in the wrong IMO.

Well I am under no doubt, if I had hit him, I would be prosecuted DD or CD, This guys attitude was as if he loves being smug, getting one over on other people, to the point it nearly cost him his life, that’s fine, his day will come.

There is a round about near this one, very similar to this, and I walk it regularly have done for years, I walk the same way round as this guy, cause it’s the most convenient path. I always stop and wait for traffic approaching from my left, never once has any vehicles stopped to give way to me, not once have I ever expected any of them to give way to me. He is the only guy I have ever encountered with this attitude.

I hope the day doesn’t come when joggers become the new cyclists, jogging up the middle of a road with a camera strapped to their heads, yelping stuff from the high way code. After that random pedestrians walking in the middle of A and B roads, with the attitudes of superiority and invincibility “I have the right of way!!!”

Just goes to show, anything can happen at any time, at work or in the car, and your career and your life can be in tatters, all so some nutter can have the feeling of being on the moral high ground.

Hahaha no he wasn’t indicating, don’t think he paid Vehicle excise duty or had a valid M.O.T, the tread on his trainers looked ■■■■■■■■■■■■ lol

the worlds gone mad :unamused:

in years gone by the standard reply would of been "whatcha doing in the road, get outa the "f"ing way ya dip stick.

Some vans were parked on double yellows in London. It was too tight to get out a narrow street with a trailer.
One van moved but with cars behind,i could not adjust the position straighten up to get out.
A lady shouts up to my passenger door saying i am going to damage the curb and plastic bollard if i continue.
None of her concern, but i just said thanks.
