In the 70s J. Haydons of Biddulph, North Staffs used to go down to abbatoirs in Chard and Totnes (although that’s Devon I think) Totnes was with pigs as I recall. Are they still going does anyone know?
Twas a long old spin from Chelford market to Chard and back in 1975. Did it in a brand new Mercedez Benz 2419 6-wheeler (no photos I’m afraid) and on the way home, we stopped in for egg & chips on the Motorway and driver Arthur Unwin put £7 of diesel in to get us home. That would be about 30 miles today!

143topline:
is the harraway at taunton neil? do they still have any double deckers?
Neil B:
Heres on of Harraways
Yes they still run Double deckers Topline, pulled by FH16s I think. I believe the F12 Unit in the picture posted has been stretched & had the box off their old ERF put on it. I haven’t seen it around recently but I guess recycling it it was a cheaper thing to do rather than buy another chassis to replace the ERF.
I remember Graham Harraway up at Chippenham market back in the 60s with a brand new Leyland unit with a single deck trailer on it, he was showing interested parties the gear change on it. It wasn’t long after that he was there with his first Scania 111 & I can hear the farmers commenting on the fact he had a bed in the cab. Good days.
HI CHAPS THE PHOTO OF THE FAIR SCENE BARTLETTS LORRY LAST ON RIGHT THE BUSINESS WAS SOLD TO HARDINGS SEE THE PHOTO OF THERE AEC I BELIVE THEY LATER SOLD TO TREVOR SANDFORD WHOS ERF PHOTO AT HIGHBRIDGE MARKET SMALL WORLD HEY
