Hello Geoff
Send me a PM with your details and I will pass them on to Roger with pleasure. I spent 35 years in livestock haulage in Devon, but my father-in-law was a farmer and dealer in Sevenoaks, so I often went to Haywards Heath with him, I remember Croydon Horse and Cattle Transport, not to say that I knew anyone by name. I used to have a bit of contact with Barry Bowers in Turners Hill, back inthe 70’s & 80’s we used to do similar work, in and out of the north of Scotland. I remember once towing Barry’s Uncle Norman on a rope from Inverness to Rothes, where he had a friend with a garage, but we had to abandon the idea in Elgin when he ran out of brakes.
Regards Peter
Peter know Barry very well he is still running a couple of lorry and drags he drives one
and one of his sons the other who was your father in law ued to do a lot round that area,
Will pm details for Roger cheers Geoff.
Neil B, cracking photos - enjoyed them. Where is that market? J. Haydons used to come from Cheshire and North Staffs to Totnes and Chard with pigs back in the 70s. Long trip.
hi gardener 120 i think the photo is taunton around 1964/5
I went down to Chard from Chelford in August 1975 (I was 11) in a brand new Mercedez 6 wheeler - on the way back my mate put £7 of diesel in to get us home, 200 odd miles
hi gardener 120 it would cost four times that to day i wounder how mutch the rate has gone up ?the diesel is making it hard to make the job pay
Lovely set of photos again Neil B, you can almost sense the atmosphere at that market can’t you, thanks very much for sharing them.
Hope you’re well

Just bumping this lovely thread back from page 5 to stop it dropping into oblivion.

hello again just thought i would bring this thead up again as we hope to be at gaydon next week end still looking for photos any cattle lorries especially somerset ones
I remember Roy Fricker & Dave Golledge ,They traded as Hador calves & always had alot out of Stur market,N B Tite used to come to us with 300 in the 70,s I met Roy he drove a yellow Merc & he wasnt opposed to putting a calf in the back, Another man Barry Heseltine came to take away with a lorry & drag, We had to load the drag on the bypass nr Nether Stowey. Ralph Bye wasnt in the list of dealers
I was on holiday in the Gloucestershire area following Gaydon 2012 , and with a friend , ( Daphdriver on TNUK ) , decided to pay a visit to the new Livestock Market at Sedgemoor .
Amongst the many cattle wagons present that Saturday, was one that took my notice , -the Renault 6 wheeler owned by R.Cox & Sons of Glastonbury. I remembered the firm , because I often transhipped
calves onto his Mercedes-Benz 4 wheeler in the late 1970s and early 1980
s. I saw Gerald Cox that day at Sedgemoor , and rekindled the many times we used to meet up at Sandbach Services , M 6 .
I also looked around for Dennis F.
, but to no avail . Probably on TNUK that day…
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
