This is mine , primera gtle in chomaflair paint
I spent years trying to get one , seen a few but they had wood dash , I wanted stainless , I gave up & went to look at green one in Grantham ( bit gutted ) , and when he pulled it out it was this one , he’d just advertised it as green , had stainless dash , couldn’t buy it quick enough
I loved that car , not the fastest , think it was the colour , then without warning it snapped the cam chain and wrecked the engine , if I remember right it was thousands for a new engine , just didn’t have money , sold it too a trader , I went out when it went , was absolutely gutted , in tears
Keep saying I’ll get another ,but I’d struggle to get one like it , mrs suggested a Skoda octavia which to be fair looks similar & wrap it , maybe a project , or just keep the memories
Mercedes C320 CDI, W203, 2006. I don’t have a pic of it but you know what one looks like in black.
No good reason for selling it, was a fool.
Mercedes got it right there with the v6 and that gearbox. Apart from servicing and tyres only ever fitted a wiper stalk to it. Swapped it for an audi which was pants
Quite liked my Rover Sterling. Owned it for eight years. Sold it because my mileage increased and fuel went up in price, it did like a drop of petrol. I replaced it with a diesel Rover 75 (which I still have). Also the autobox started playing up (they all do on these at 100,000 miles) and it needed cambelts doing again. Sold it to a restorer and it’s still out there on SORN.

One of the directors where I worked had a Sterling, he was “all fuel and Ferodo”, very heavy on the brakes. He brought it round to the garage one morning complaining about a noise from the front when he braked. I put the jack under the offside front suspension arm, lifted it and took the wheel off. As expected, pads worn down to the backing plate, but thankfully no scoring on the disc. Easy job, new pads and away we go - or so I thought. I went to open the door to turn the steering so I could get at the caliper bolts, and couldn’t open the door. After a bit of head scratching, I lowered the jack a bit, and found that the door opened easily. So now I know why we’d had to replace the broken (plastic) handle twice already - the bodyshell was twisting, the car was barely two years old. Apparently his driveway at home was uneven and on a steep slope, and he didn’t always park on the level. Once we had explained, he never broke another handle. As for the brakes, he was always a regular customer for pads…

I always wanted a xr3, I couldn’t afford one so I brought a 1.4 lx ( I think it was ) then got a 2 nd hand spoiler & alloy wheels
I think this would be a good thread for the youngsters to have a look at , I’m sure they think we had it easy , drove round in brand new mercs , bmw ,s , the reality was at one time me & mrs had one car , Nissan micra , pug was my girls , we went to Cornwall / Tenby etc in the micra , as that was our only car , the primera was nowhere near new , I couldn’t afford a 2 nd hand xr3 I , drove round in £150 cortinas , had to change gearboxes / axles / engines in Capris etc as no money to buy another car
Kid next door at 20 ish has a 18 plate civic , another one who shouts how hard his life is & how easy us older ones had it

The closest I’ve got to a posh car in 60 + yrs is a Austin ambassador, and the only thing posh about it was it’s name , it was terrible & im sure the garage had a 7 day exchange deal , I changed it for a Astra gte 16 v
Sattalk:

Did Bodie & Doyle not drive Capris??
My most missed car was a Honda Accord Type S. Bought new in 2010. Pretty much bullet proof.
Would have had another one but Honda stopped importing Accords about 2015.

Mine was a 1966 Rover P5 that I bought in 1976.
One owner, 8k miles on the clock absolutely mint, pale blue, leather seats & carpets.
My Saudi partner who had a Rolls Silver Cloud would not accept it wasn’t a Rolls.
He used to say Rover/Rolls Royce - what’s the difference and when he owed me money he always used to say:
You drive a Rolls Royce - it’s only small money between us.
Give him his due he always paid up and more, every time I went to Jeddah to see him he refused to talk business for at least a week, saying you need a rest & a holiday. I drank more Whiskey there than anywhere else in my life.
Top man he was.

Did Doyle have a personal RS2000? But their “company” cars were Capri’s.
