Car transporter companys old and new

Here’s one from the archives; Prototype Lohr EHR301UK with 11 Saab on board (six of them 9-5 estates).

Nice load, Saab’s not as heavy as you may think, weights, heights and clearances OK (and you can see out of the windscreen, Peter) .

I’ve never seen transporters like this loaded and unloaded but can someone tell me this… when the cars have been driven onto the bottom deck, how on earth did the driver get out?

Lee, you keep them over to one side as much as possible, then breath in when you get out.
when you have 3 on the bottom like that, they are only small cars anyway, so narrower.

Making sure you load up BEFORE breakfast!

Gordon Pulman
Gordon passed away a couple of weeks ago and was cremated at Mountsett last Thursday.
Gordon started at W A Glendinning Ltd in July 1970 driving the vans & pick ups. After passing His HGV he drove tippers & flats working his way onto the car transporters. I am not too sure how long he was at Glendinnings it was a number of years, I have a feeling he may have left & came back again.
RIP Gordon

We had some of these at Carfax, probably ex-BRS Cartransport. They really used to fly but did tend to overheat. At least one had a sleeper conversion fitted to it (by Carfax) which was just bare metal inside - lovely!

Another one to the collection.

this is what happens when you park a wagon in an unsecure place(the irish did’nt like paying to park their trucks)and are told to hide the keys somewhere handy,in this case it was so handy, they were found and the wagon stolen, taken to a building site, they got a mini off the back then set it alight.ten new bmw’s,and the new building next to it up in smoke, just because the tight gets are too tight to pay for secure parking.

its usually some d******d siting on his arse in an office that builds the load, that dos’nt give a toss on how many drops is on it.A good transporter driver will know how to load it Mark, but a big percentage of drivers would have wanted a car taken off that load.

how long would it take you to load all them on peter, as i have never done cars before.

i know davy took a while because of the size of the load, but normally if it is a straight load, an hour to an hour and a half(can be quicker on a friday  )

You are right Glenny it is a cracking load, I always liked the Renault from the loading point as the cab suits transporters. I dont think the Navara is as bad as you think on the peak as they are designed to carry a load they are built lighter to increase payload at a guess about 2.25 ton; it will handle better than having a Range Rover on the peak.
