Ford Direct contract was originally run by Silcock Express who then became Axial. The Ford Direct name is what Ford use for their ex management/ demo cars abit like Vauxhalls network q.

Hello Tony,

I was going through my address book over Christmas and rang every number I have for Kites but all were discontinued. Next time you speak to him that’s why he hasn’t heard from me for a while. Also, in my photo collection (when I find it) are pics of you, Pete and others at Colnbrook.

Terry,

thanks, I’ve seen the Carfax pics on here and Facebook, some memories there. I have driven most of them at one time or another. Great picture of Tom and Pete, exactly the way I remember them.

Vinty.

Hello Vinty  You probably don’t remember me, I was at slip end for about 12 months at the time they had the Mercs, they sent a car load of us down to Yeovil to pick up some new ones with some old spunky 9 car trailers out of a field, Roger Lambert was in the office at the time…Do you know if he’s still alive  …Have you retired yet  ?

Trev.

If we went to Yeovil for trailers it was for Walon after they had bought Autocars. I went to Yeovil that many times I had enough points for a council house there!

I seem to remember that Autocars graveyard was at Wythall and after the takeover all the old trailers from there were taken to the graveyard at Yeovil.

As far as I recall, Roger Lambert moved up north, haven’t heard that he’s not around anymore so must assume he’s still with us.

Put a few on, make the trip worthwhile.

Hi, Here are some models i made. My brother used to work for Walon, Zegwaard and Collewijn in the Netherlands. He inspired me to build these code 3 dinky’s and corgi’s. In his Walon time he spent a lot of summers helping his colleque in the UK.

cant believe people can be that desperate to get that extra few vehicles onto a load,to make it this unsafe

imagine the scene,“driver i only want the one on the peak nearside”.the rest have been cancelled, but dont worry i’ve spoken to your traffic office and they said “no problem”.by the way,you cant park there, you’ll get a ticket, and chop, chop, its 3,30.and we have a deadline of 4 o,clock.oh,and take it round the back into the compound about 400 yards down the lane. :smiling_imp:

Another for the collection. FJs eh!!! I was given a brand new one with a 6 car Carrimore (Progressive adaption), badged BMC 5.7 engine, it did pull and go well, except when it broke down and that was often, mostly fuel pump/line problems, also on the way from Slough with 5 CitroenDS and at the traffic lights in Henley it broke a halfshaft, I will never forget what the copper who was directing traffic said, " You’ve created a bigger ■■■■■■ jam than we get on Regatta Week". A local garage towed me out of town and I then had to wait for the Prog wrecker to come from Coventry, the driver hitched on the bar, said “Let’s go and don’t go to sleep” no chance that was the hairiest ride ever, he hammered it, result, khaki underpants.

We had two of these FJ 360s worst trucks ever. The second was a seed vehicle they gave us after having so much trouble with the first including a few engines in the first year. The only good thing was the heater, I can remember me and my mate getting out of the Super Comet at Normans Brotherton freezing after a cold run down from the North East and Olly Whitwood geting out of the FJ in his shirt Sleeves.

oiltreader:
Why did this happen, build weakness or maybe accident?.
oiltreader

hi oiltreader.i think i can shine some light on this, coz i can remember when it happened a few years ago.
the truck used to belong to lawsons, its a lohr challanger and was the sister truck to mine.(was driven by my mate davey holiday).anyway, this happened after lawsons went under with whoever the company was that bought it.it was an inherent weakness, the pillars used to crack at their base, mine was forever getting welded when i went in for service,as they were second life rebodied units.this body was new in 92-93.lawsons mechanics knew of the weakness,so looked out for it on services, unfortunatley it seems whoever serviced these trucks thereafter didnt know.
regards buck.
