Abbey Hill seemed to lose something when the Canadians took them over, they went all Corporate & correct
I am now sorting through a few (thousand) transporter photos I have.
I’ve come across this one, it’s a bit of a teaser to start with…
Can you tell what it is yet?
A clue, the transporter company is Autocars, the load is 10 Lotus Elises and the idiot hanging out of the door is ■■■■ Scully.

I worked for them and I don’t either, but welcome to the site, Vint, look forward to some more of your photo’s.
10? I’d like to see the full photo of that.
This looks like the place for a bit of nostalgia!

hi paul. long time no see
got a bit of time on your hands then? got any pics of west drayton■■?
steve.
Found this on another site.
Yes, transporter man, it is a Mk7 conversion. To my knowledge there wasn’t another converted in the same way as this was. As soon as I find a complete picture I’ll post it and you’ll see how it differed from other conversions - quite clever! 10 Vx Cavaliers loaded easily but when the Vectra came out all we could get on it were 8 - that was the end of that trailer.
It was also the only trailer you could load the Lotus’s on and not have to climb out of the windows (you could only get 7 on a Hoynor 11-car drawbar).
To the others, there were about 10 Mercs based at Slip End, 2 with 7-car Mk7’s (for ferrying) and the rest with 9-car Hoynor tri-decks (D86?).
And yes Steve, of course I have some photos of West Drayton, I just have to be careful who sees them!!!
Hello Vinty You probably don’t remember me, I was at slip end for about 12 months at the time they had the Mercs, they sent a car load of us down to Yeovil to pick up some new ones with some old spunky 9 car trailers out of a field, Roger Lambert was in the office at the time…Do you know if he’s still alive …Have you retired yet ?
Trev.
nice load from one of our counterparts from the u.s.of a.

Hi Vinty I am just trying to imagine you climbing out of a Lotus window!!!
I have climbed out of many a window - not always car windows though! It’s why I always keep trim you know.
Mr Vint !!!

Sorry to be a pedant but I think they’re Esprit models, not Elises.
Read (on here) recently that CCS near Chester have gone out of business which is a shame. Went there years back and they had a really rare old truck there the maker/type of which I’ve completely forgotten!

The truck you can’t remember may be a Dennison that they still had.
You know what, I think it was! I remember talking to one of their drivers at the yard and he said he’d driven it when it was on the road and loved it. From memory (and we’re possibly talking 15 years or so ago) he was hoping to do it up but spares were a nightmare.
Yes cavlad, they were Esprits, I must have had a senior moment when trying to remember what they were exactly. 36 years in car transport and I still can’t tell one car from another!

Have you been through the whole thread? I’ve put a few old carfax pictures on here.
