Transporter Man a question…why when they made this drop well on this Mk 2 I’m guessing, Why didn’t Carrimore, make a drop well on the Mk4 and 6 from the outset

The answer is I don,t know,I am just wondering if this could have been a mk3 never new what a mk3 was as we went from mk2 to mk4. They were building mk6 & mk9 down the same lines. Cannot understand why operators would go for the 6 when the 9 was availablemo

Progressive workshops made the dropwells themselves nothing to do with Carrimore. When in for service I have watched them doing the work and a really good job they made of it. They also did their own livery painting and for a packet of ■■■■ the signwriter would do a “name” for sticking in or on your cab. I think I may still have mine, must have a look.

I thought the Mk 9 came out 12 months after the Mk 6, so this begs another question what were the Mk 7/8?
Just to add to this, I was looking on Ebay and came across a Scammell Handyman with Carrimore Tri Deck trailer which it said is a Mk5 is this right? but what caught my eye was the price the bidding was up to…1,600 pounds!!!, I wonder how that compares to a new real one in the late 60’s.

You always make my day Oiltreader, where did you get that one from, do you have any more of BRS Cartransports AEC’s,
that must have been an E Reg as it as British Road Services on the headboard, it was changed in 68 to Cartransport (BRS) Ltd.
Then they changed the colours to Red and White and after some more AEC’s, went for Mastiffs, with the V8 Perkins.

Hi Dieseldog, I feed all sorts of permutations into Google Images which produces no end of stuff, sadly not to many transporters, I’ll keep looking. Cheers.

My first job was at Cartransport at Queenborough. We had a fleet of Merc 1626s, red with a White stripe. I was only a school lever back then not a driver but really enjoyed my time with company. The depot manager was a chap called Rowan Broadbent who gave me a large framed photo of one of the Mercs when i left. We were on the Toyota contract and ended up with Merc 1625s, although these were White with a Red stripe. Does anyone remember these?.

Yes Mark I do, My Dad and Brother were on there at Coventry Depot for many years, I was there in 1990. When I was on general haulage in the late 70’s , I delivered some of the concrete beams for the Toyota building. was this your Merc?

i’ve seen this picture a few times, but i cant get the reason behind it.Maybe the driver looks on this forum and explain.Think he will be the only one to explain that one.
when they go on the boat if they load 12 the conventional way there is a chance the deck could come together. loading this way car 6 is well out the way hieght is not a issue still under 16 00ft
Treebound in Stockport, this driver found himself out on a limb, he made a trunk call to the police, they soon twigged on and sent Special Branch
