That’s in one of the earlier pics. Yeh they’re both all good, trouble is we only seem to get together at Funerals of Transporter types lately. It must be an age thing!!
A few of mine over the years.
The Eurofleet Merc was my first at the tendar age of 21!!! Not many started that young on transporters did they? The ex Lawsons Merc was for a little 1 man band called Carline. That’s now Paragon.

Another firm from away back that comes to mind was Overland of Carlisle, at that time the only transporter firm using Merc units, the trailers looked quite lightweight and may have been Carter, the cab colour I think was blue and white. Anyone else remember them.
oiltreaderOverland was a company set up by Mr & Mrs Macdowell the mother & father of Ray & Grant ECM (East ■■■■■■■ Motors), didn’t know their first names as they were known as Mac & Mrs Mac by the drivers and it seems everyone else; they operated out of Carlisle Airport. Overland was sold out to MCD on the condition they stopped out of the industry for a given amount of years. ECM started shortly after that with Ray. Mac was a hell of an engineer and built the first tri-decker that I had seen out of a Carter semi trailer with an electric tail lift. You are right they did operate Mercs but before that Traders & TS3s and they had one Leyland Super Comet on a Carter drawbar. They were Blue and white with the rose & thistle on the door. We both had compounds next to each other behind Bobs Cafe Kidlington & helped each other out depending who was busy.
Thanks for this information “transporter man” I’ve often wondered who the Macdowells behind ECM where. I assume that they were Scottish and moved to Carlisle airport because there was more space to park up etc.
Ray & Grant Macdowell have build up the second largest car transporter in the UK after Autologic Holdings plc (whos financial position is not assured) yet ECM have such a low profile.

This is a nice tidy looking outfit!Always like the MK 4 Carrimore, could never understand why BRS Cartransport never went for them before the MK 6, maybe Transporter Man can shed a bit of light.
Don’t know why they didn’t go for them, but they didn’t go a for the drawbars in a big way either. this was Carrimores first tandem axle trailer, we bought ours after a visit to Finchley and Alan Cooper showed us the drawings. Our trailer was one of the last built at Finchley, they were far superior to the first of the same trailers built at Stanley. They were a good solid trailer, the only faults been the gap between the two decks at the back end was a bit tight, we put in 1 1/2 spacers at the top of the scissor arms and the deck to give more clearance also the deck always seemed to go up and down twisted made worse when the knuckles were worn. I used to complain to Alan about this; one night I came back into the yard at Consett with a load of Fiats out of Dover Alan had dropped in with his family just as we started to take them off, guess what the bloody deck came down straight!
They were originally supplied on 825x20 tyres, which was ok behind the two BMC’s it saw off but could not stand the pace behind the Leyland Badger when the tyres were upgraded to 900x20s.
Oliver Whitwood had the trailer from new, I can remember him comming into Normans at Knottingly with a spring snapped in half, we borrowed a large adjustable spanner from the guy who had the Sentnal steam engine and removed it all together, jammed a wood block in the balance beam he continued back to the yard via Newcastle on the one spring.

Multi flagged ERF.oiltreader
Oiltreader im pretty sure this is the same truck, There was old boy driving it (owner driver) i think, he was working out of qek (keddy,s) at upper heyford at the same time i was on contract to them, cant remember his name and i dont know if he,s still on the go, Lightswitch may know the same guy.
Alan Rushworth
Of course it is , smashing bloke, he,s got to be retired now, and that truck of his, was always kept busy, certainly seen some action that one. Good old ERF,S eh
I had heard that the truck could be in the Lohr museum
Not surprising in the least, and would alan still be there in the saddle??
Hi Buzza we are lucky Alan is still with us. He bought a new ERF/Charles Roberts drawbar, John Pinnion was the regular driver. Alan did a nightshift and managed to run into a mobile crane on the M25 he hit it that hard the cab was knocked off & the engine & gearbox knocked out he was badly injured & lucky to survive. I have some photos of the truck somewhere. Screw loose also drove for him. The trailer was converted by Rod Chapman to carry one of the Stormont racing Ford Cargo’s.

Donaldsons.oiltreader
Any body know if Donaldsons are still going haven’t seen one for a long time also what about Jordans leiecster area?
That ole girl would tell some tales if it could. It was worked on by Pete Baker who did own Carfax and he can be seen in the drivers seat of the Carfax Guy earlier in this thread. Poor ole “Big Pete” lost out to cancer earlier this year. Pete, Rushy and my dad Rick “Fred” Gilbert have a lot to answer for. They got me into this lousy game at 21.
Hello transporter man, thanks for the info, i didnt realise he had john and kev driving for him. Never the less im so glad alan is ok, life on tps just seems to be one sad story at the moment.
