Hi all, I passed my Theory parts 1a and 1b today (woop) but I can’t book the Theory part 2 - Case studies… it just isn’t there as an option.
I passed my full car driving licence in 1989… will that make a difference? I’ve sent DVSA an email but will try phoning when they’re next open but just thought i’d try here first
I am in the same boat. You can’t book the test because you got your license before 1997. If you do the 35 hour CPC training you don’t need to do the Case studies test.

OK cheers, I phoned the DVSA (several times) today, to try to book the Part 2 Case Study test, as a training company I’m in contact with, told me I’d need to phone the 0300 number to book.
Got various work-from-home people, who hadn’t really a clue about the HGV side of things. All of those people had me on hold whilst ‘checking it out’, then said they’d put me through to someone who should know the answer. Each time, the line went dead
I’ll try again after Xmas, as the case studies test would seem the cheaper option
I thought this was all supposed to be getting easier

Is the training company a broker or a proper training company

I’m sure I was being quoted £400-£500 for CPC Case studies.
That’s the cost for the DVSA multiple choice case study test alone, at a test centre, not any additional online learning courses.
Looks like you’ve had some very poor advice, and extrapolating from that, a pretty poor deal from your training provider.
Good driving schools (as opposed to opportunistic brokers) will sell you a complete package deal which includes all your theory tests and an online study package (IIRC, DTS Online is one I heard recommended).
I’m fairly sure this segment wouldn’t amount to £400-£500, as that would be around one-third of the cost of the whole package, which would also include: medical, Module 3 training plus test (the actual driving test), and Module 4 training plus test (the “Initial DCPC” show-me-tell-me segment).
Not a broker, clearly been around a while, all prices shown online, all looks kosher.
Only one question I would have asked: where is Module 2 in the costings?
It is not clear whether: “CPC Initial Practical Category C TRUCK, £208 inc test” covers just the Mod 4 or Mod 2 as well, or if it is covered by the costings listed as
“M/Choice Theory + Test, Hazard Perception Test”
They don’t offer/recommend a study package, because they say
You will be required to study at home.
Totally agree with that
We have found it unnecessary to give any practical training to prepare you for these tests due to the very low number of people who fail after studying properly at home.
Extensive? You’re not wrong there
It’s not beyond the realms of possibility to spend 35 hours in a phone queue.
OP would be better off doing DCPC seeing as he’s got the acquired rights, VR seem to run it constantly - I feel sorry for their trainer(s) they must be pig-sick of it. Worth mentioning that VR are Scottish too, so it’ll be more comfortable on the ears.
I personally would not base the decision solely on the appearance of cost; Periodic DCPC is not pass or fail, so it’s price is fixed.
Mod 2 and Mod 4 are most definitely pass or fail; failing one (or both) could not only be demoralizing but also be potentially more expensive than periodic DCPC.
I believe OP will benefit more from periodic DCPC, which will cover a wide range of subject material which they may or may not already be familiar with.
BishBashBosh:
You can sit CPC Modules 2 & 4 to get your FIRST card, regardless of whether you passed category B before or after 01 Jan 1997.
As you have acquired rights, you cannot book online and will need to call them instead: 0300 200 1122.
The waiting times to get through are extensive, my advice would be to call at 8am when the lines open.
Yes I’ve phoned that number three times. Didn’t have to wait particularly long each time tbh but getting through to someone different each time and subsequently hung-up on each time, having being told they’d put me through to a more HGV specific line, is quite frustrating.
