I was given this run at dpd hinckley, planner says 3:45 driving time. Reckons they do it a couple of times a week.
I don’t do nights out,
Had to get a truck changed and a couple of bulbs done on the trailer, I had done 25 minutes driving before I left the yard, because of where the yard is the sat nav thinks you need to drive through hinckley so can’t give accurate time until you are on the a5…
I pulled in to Leicester forest east services, I’d done 55 mins driving time and still had 4 hours to do. this was at 08:30 tuesday so probably gonna take longer.
Called traffic “keep going , if you run out of time we’ll send a van out to fetch you”
Me " I told you I don’t do nights out, I’m bringing it back"
Traffic “If you bring it back you will be banned”
Me “Good”

If you had a 10 available, I don’t really see what the problem is? But then I don’t know the roads. Even if you did run out of time getting back, I doubt you would be very far away.

That is legal providing you have duty time left
You could do 10 hours driving with 1.5 hours other work plus 1.5 hours break then do another 2 hours in the van as a driver or passenger = no night out
Is it me or have read it wrong but, I get the sense the OP had thrown the towel in at 25mins driving before leaving the yard, and was almost apoplectic at 55mins when they pulled into LFE.
Amazing how many companies do the same runs day in day out but every now and then a driver pops up who swears it can’t be done and what happens? Somehow they run out of time. Give. Me. Strength. If you’ve got a 10, use it. If you don’t they send they’d send a van to get you, why wasn’t that good enough?
Come on OP give your mangina a wipe and crack on. Most Friday nights I do a limping gig from Immingham to Avonmouth (500 mile round trip) for a trailer change, 9 hours 45 mins driving on average and that’s battling Friday teatime traffic southbound!!
To answer the question yes it can be done legally in a day.
Having a van rescue as a back up helps negate all but the most serious of delays.
Whether the back up van materialised if needed is another matter but yes it can be and should be done.
Course if personal circumstances dictate you cannot night out that’s worth considering but if it’s just fear of being away from home then see mangina post above.

Some people just don’t want the work!!
That’s an average speed of over 50mph takes some doing at anytime let alone a Friday
