Robert and scania 81 ,Hello both ,
Robert ,yes of course you can use that shot for your book , and you may also like to add this additional shot i have since found .
For some reason Robert i assumed (wrongly ) that the unit having a Northants reg had been new to Patrick Wellingborough ( cc actually residedin that county ) and was familiar with that fleet .Dont you agree the Scania badge is incongruous to say the least !
Scania 81 ,
Sorry to say i do not have any shots of Butcher Transport (tbh never heard of them ) !
Tim Price had a couple of Maggies , and i can remember Gerry Jones having one , it would be parked up near George St bridge , at the time he was hauling out the Pirelli factory just of Corporation road .But Maggies also featured with Derek and Brenda Price (GDJ Price) and Sheddicks also had a couple , buy sorry i do not have any shots
I can only just remember Illtyd Thomas using the old transport cafe at the A48 junction with Caldicot (now an Indian restaurant) but i was not living in the area at the time ,
cheers guys , cc .

Many thanks for that response, Chepstowchap! And I do agree that the Scania badge is a tad incongruous; but it makes a marvellous example of the sneaky way ERF made it look a bit like its rival of the day, the Scania 140. Remember, it was sometimes referred to as the ‘Sandbach Scania’, and of course I can make a play of that in my caption for the pic in my forthcoming book. Great stuff, and thanks again. Robert
Richard Read had those style ERFs on Middle East work also , any pics CC ? regards Keith .

Yes, lots of Richard Read pics of these NGCs on the ERF European 1975 thread - most of them courtesy of Bubbleman. (Plenty more in my books too!). Robert

Morning Cccp, that magi deutz[Gerry Jones] parked by the george street bridge was driven by driver Phil Humphreys after he was made redundant off Brs Newport Watch house parade.A few years later had is job back on the castrol contract.
In the early 80,s just past magor services that was not there then a young farmer called fosse[always in the field driving a tractor] on the Cb used to drive a little for Butchers Transport Cross Keys after passing is class 1.
Excuse the useless information,my memory absorbs things as if it happened yesterday.

Evening rward, last time i heard he was winding down on nights before he retires on stobarts out of newport.
I spent some time on Rest Assured delivering beds around the country and last going off on the con can and nacanco job at magor brewery
with him.
You and Cccp may know Hadyn Powell he owned Eastern Valley Transport[Blue transcons]timber up the smoke and tate and lyle sugar back.Worked on the continent with clevelys [Capitol coaches]drove a white transcon at the time.
Really nice guy and knowledgeable, hard working nothing for him to tip in milan, berlin etc in the 70,s.
Always told me his wife earned more in Park Davis the listerine factory then he could on distance work.
