Hi Windrush, these are the main weighbridges did you use these when you worked out of Holme Hall?

Yes I think so Paul. Would know more if that truck wasn’t in the way! I remember that you had to have the sheet rolled back when you weighed in or they wouldn’t give you a loading slip, you then went into a cabin and somebody upstairs telephoned you with loading instructions and a loading card would drop down a shute. All you had to do then was find the stock heap, which could take as long as delivering the load!
Weighing out at least you did see a real person, there was an old lad on the bridge (ex Butlers) who loathed Tarmac almost as much as I did, and a lass who was also decent to talk to. Never did a lot from there, it was just handy if I was in the area and our place was slack. Some days I would be working out of four different quarries, thank goodness for mobile phones!
Pete.
Hi Pete, that could have been Charlie Plant,he worked for Butlers for years.I have tried to post a picture of him but it keeps failing I will try another time, regards Paul.
Can I ask if Holme Hall did much cutback tarmac Paul? And if so did they do long distance with it? A few places round here (Buxton area) used to have depots in all parts of the country that they delivered Stormac and Retardamac to.

Excellent old pic Paul. I can make out a couple of Fodens and Leyland Reivers and the iconic 70s style livery.
Keep 'em coming my friend.
Hi Bonkey, yes I could make out the Fodens as well. Pity the pic wasn’t a bit clearer but as they say any pic is better than none at all.
Going back to the Cutback Tarmac I spoke to Des who ran the Tarmac Plant last night, only place he could remember it going to was East Lindsey County Council. I do recollect going with a driver with a load of Tarmac but don’t remember what they used it for.I may be getting some more pics soon made contact with another person who worked in the quarry,he is going to ring me when he has been in the loft to see what he has got. Here’s a shot of the weighbridge not sure of the year.
is butlers quarry near marshalls quarry ,a use to work for them out of ramsbottom near bury, and is their a one way system round their ?
Certainly better than nothing! Love the old working shots and many thanks for managing to dig them up.
