That Trump is more popular than Starmer is a bit apples and oranges.
POTUS are normally more popular with their electorate.
So how does Trump compare with with other POTUS at this early stage?
"CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten, posted on social media platform X that, Trump’s overall net approval and on the economy are “historically awful… weak, weak, weak, going into a 1st address to Congress. He has the 2nd worst net approval rating (+1 pts) on record. Beating only himself (2017). His net approval on the economy (-4 pts) is the worst,” as quoted by Newsweek.
So he is second lowest in popularity.
Only beaten by himself last time around!
And again a false statement, his popularity is recently falling, not rising.
EDIT to add
Not Trump but further to popularity very recently and apparently related to Ukraine, Farage’s popularity has fallen and Starmer’s has risen.
"According to a YouGov poll, the number of voters with a favourable view of Farage has fallen from 30% to 26% since mid-February, while the number with an unfavourable view has risen from 60% to 65%. That gives him an overable rating of minus 39.
Starmer’s favourability rating, meanwhile, has risen from minus 40 to minus 28 over the same period.
Apart from the fact that nobody has stolen Israeli territory of course, it is the other way round there. But that’s Trump for you, he obviously prefers strong arm war criminals. Good company, all three of them, if he carries out promises re Greenland and Canada.
all adults…1/102020 to 1/1/2025 he started at 15% and climbed to 34%
Men… 1/102020 to 1/1/2025 he started at 20% and climbed to 46%

baby boomers 1/102020 to 1/1/2025 he started at 15% and climbed to 32%
Ah…and that ties in with this:
"Republican Representative Derrick Van Orden [told]CNN that during a private meeting with GOP lawmakers Wednesday, Musk told the group that the recently announced cuts of more than 70,000 jobs at the Department of Veterans Affairs “wasn’t a DOGE decision.”
Initial headlines look good and Trump backs Musk as both take credit.
Looking past the headlines and the flaws become evident.
Musk stops taking “credit” as it turns to “blame” and passes it along.
Trump chucks everyone under the bus, as he always does.
Yes quite so… In the US there are at the moment some Gov officials and some Judges standing up for their country, and their constitution, rather than a single man.
We also had the sentiment after WWI that it should never happen again.
Then we had WWII.
Even now some are thinking “No, it can never happen again” !
Another global conflict is not inevitable but is very possible, and anyone burying their head in the sand and ignoring danger signs is not helping to avoid it.
“It can never happen to me” is the self defeating prophesy for many Darwin Award winners.
Bit of light relief? If only!
This 5 min YT makes a good point plus the latter half of it is a comedy skit, and if anyone remembers the old William Shatner vid I put up a couple of weeks ago the references are there.
I think Starmer sees himself as some sott of saviour,.a Kissinger character …or Butros Butros Starmer ,
He’s milking it for all it is worth to regain some popularity and gain some credibility.
Also a good excuse to cosy up to those EU members .
Will Putin be happy with what are essentially NATO forces in Ukraine at the same time as his own forces?..what could possiblly go wrong.
If he jumos in gung ho before anything is discussed or finalised with Trump,.(which aint agreeable with a few on here,) a whole sh.storm could come down I fear.
“and has risen in popularity”
Which is not true.
He did rise in popularity before 01/01/2025, but is now lower than then, so popularity has fallen, not risen.
Of course if you wish to discuss the popularity of other out of office politicians I expect they almost all get more and more popular the longer they are out of office.
Was Trump more popular in late 2024 than when he was actually in office last time? Yes he was.
If you want to score a point for that astounding revelation, carry on.
Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely “pounding” Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED. To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!
