I am curious as to whether it was actually a BBC reporter who said exactly what, or whether it was another commentator who was speaking, or whether it was reported speech?
As ever, the devil is in the detail.
If it was a news item it could have been any of the above of course.
“Trade” itself needs to defined.
Is that all trade? Or just goods? Goods and services? Imports and exports?
Trump tariffs are affecting (so far) only UK goods exports to the US, (for UK interests).
Mentioning all trade of all types might well be strictly accurate, but could still be misleading. And as I mentioned, although a serious worry, is not likely to be as damaging to the UK as bad as leaving the EU.
If were still in the EU we would be actually be better off in spite of Trump putting larger tariffs on them!
The spin from some politicians in mentioning that the EU is being hit harder than the UK, ignores the fact that we are still punching ourselves in the face every day we stay outside the EU.
