I was looking through Decembers issue of Classic & Vintage Commercials, when I spotted, pictured on the Woodhead run on September 2014 a Seddon 32/4 reg.no.TCH615L owned by John Wood and in the livery of Wood & sons of Bollingham. In the write up under the picture it was listed at one time as being in BRS colours(see attached photo). Was it really a BRS vehicle or was it simply done as a tribute.I note it has also been with Ken Thomas & John Ward of Dadby as well.I note it was listed as BRS flt no.KTD2034.Any info…

I’ve no idea of the past history of the Seddon but I can confirm that it belongs to Ambrose Wood, commercial vehicle fitter and ace welder, of Bollington, near Macclesfield. The outfit is usually piloted by his son, John, who, as a nipper, used to annoy me by running around their yard as I was trying to reverse in to deliver a bit of steel. If you’ve seen the platform trailer that’s used behind the Seddon, you will probably understand the local joke that he’s still saving up for the other half of the pot of red paint!

I think it’s the Scottish blood that makes him brainy.
I shall be as brainy as Tidderson if I keep drinking the Scottish liquids!

Apologies if this has been on before.

Hiya,
ROF I could find a good home for the remaining half bottle, just be sure to package
it well we don’t want any “damaged in transit” notifications do we.

Found this picture when trawling through the internet some time ago.Anybody got any ideas about it’s history.I believe it’s an Albion HD57L but not sure about any details, one for you perhaps Peter.!!

NAT 309 was 1 of 5 Albion 8 wheelers based at Legrams Lane Bradford. Chassis no. 57113K new on 1/4/1952.
!st fleet no. was 32D645 then 4D322, 2D322 then DG4. The last fleet numbers started at 1 with the oldest vehicle being the next to go, so i think no. 4 wasn’t around for long. Peter

Thanks Peter, didn’t know about the later fleet number situation,I thought you might just have had the info if anybody had.Sadly Legrams lane depot long gone.I am sad to see so much of what was such a huge nationalised industry left only in the memories of those who worked and still are interested in what was nick named the “Red and Rusty” service.Long may we the few continue to support and remember all those who made it possible.to all I say, thank you.

Afternoon Chris , ive just been past the Legrams Lane site ,the building and yard are still there its now used for commercial vehicle repairs unlike Henry Longs further up the road which is now some sort of college

Thanks Ramone,
yes I was aware the some buildings were still there, but the heart and soul has long since gone.I used to pass it everyday on my way to work and was saddened to see what is left,if only the buildings could talk, what stories they might tell.A whole lifetime of people and goods travelling around the country…

hi all you ex red rusty men
no one ever seems to mention the leeds brs depots, from memory there was the huge parcels depot on brown lane, the haulage depots on water lane, meadow lane, and jaw bone lane near rothwell, any info or photos would be good.
