Another photo of the Bradford Comet

Any idea why it should be towing a trailer from Marlow(MD)Buckinghamshire and where was this pictured, definitely not Bradford as Legrams lane depot was nowhere near a railway line, which I think is in the background of this picture…Peter one for you I think!!!

High Wycombe depot. MD was the depot code. I think Marlow closed many years before? Peter

Many thanks once more, Tidderson.
The Atkinson was ex-James Smith. The ERF in the background was one of a batch of about five delivered new to Forest of Dean depot- one Gardner180, the rest ■■■■■■■ 205, one of which proudly wore a “Lorry Driver of the Year Finalist” badge, earned by the shop steward, Bill Taylor.

I bought this off Ebay , but when I first started on Brs Oxford depot ,she was still being used on general haulage , driven by Paul Collett , I think Tony Smith drove her before , and they called him TC (TOP CAT ) ,hence the letters TC on the front grill .

I also remember her coming in with a head gasket problem , and I remember throwing it back together and she was sent down to Llaneli to be used as a shunter , it had a tl12 in .

We use to supply wagons to HABITAT , but this was way before my days there .

Excellent ! Nostalgic shot , know that location well , James Smith hauled coal into Uskmouth power station .
Would it have been mined in the Forest ? regards Keith .

Leylandlover would know if he catches sight of this.
Otherwise ring Rothdean & ask for Lionel!

Cheers ROF< regards Keith .

Well ROF I do remember the At key and the Gardner powered 8 legged was driven by my cousin, husband. He used to come Brierley to Woodside on his dodgy night out. However I had left Merrin End before the grey paint arrived

Only goes to show that you should be careful what you say about Foresters- they’re probably related! We have the same sort of deal up here with folks from Buxton!
I was wondering if you could inform Keith on whether James Smith hauled FoD coal into Uskmouth power station?

Past it’s best!

Does anyone know the history of this one?

No idea where the Octopus or the S-type came from, or where they went for that matter! The only light I can throw on the photo is that it was taken at Wilderness quarry just after Young George had started up on his own, hence the odd bits of Imperial Crimson paint visible in the shot.

Dear Tidderson,Have you got a photo of 194PT its an 8 wheeler AEC from Merrin End?

Hi ,Tidderson, we had two Aec 8 WHEEL flats eg the same colour Green as the one one the photo there reg no were 524 /526 cfj thats all i can tell you ,Cheers Barry

Nice shot, that.
A typical run for this one would have been furnace coke from Cwm to Enfield, returning with scrap metal for the South Wales steelworks.

Hi Tidderson and ROF , Yes that is definately the Wilderness, and that Octopus having a Breconshire reg , is quite possibly ex Cyril Williams Brynmawer. great pics Tidderson regards Keith .
