I voted remain but the only thing that’s changed since brexit for me is substantial pay rises , which is what most working class blokes are interested in , so brexit is a thumbs up from me , I’d vote leave next time , but as winseer said we will never get a vote on it again
It is a shame that most of the pay-bump has come to ZHC workers rather than the entire industry eh?
There’s still firms out there that are advertizing “We accept new passes” alongside “6-9 points on licence OK” - as the only way NOW to fill jobs paying £12ph on agency.
Still, as you say - the pay bump 2 years back, due to the “Driver Shortage” - does seem to have improved the agency worker’s lot, that other so-often unsung branch of the “Key Worker Brigade” that only had members of the public waving inanely down at us passing truckers from over-bridges on the country’s motorways eh?
These days, the public view of the average trucker - has since dropped back to “Beneath Contempt” again, of course…

Nonsense. Any payrise has been wiped out and then some by the explosion in prices that have happened since then. Just the rise in the gas bill was double every payrise me and anyone I know saw.
JeffA:
I dunno Winseer - I read the news probably more than most other folk and the only reason I ever registered for Brexit was migration. The rest were just old tory grandees saying “get rid of workers rights so we can have 10 year olds up chimneys again” - that was never gonna be a big votewinner was it? That’s why they stuck to migration - oh and that it would mean 350 million a week for the NHS - whoever came up with that should be publicly executed.
Nhs has had way more than 350 million since brexit that’s for sure
It was supposed to be 350 million A WEEK. Not 350 million in 6 years. Come on dozy - don’t be silly.

And ALL that is down to your lot’s favourite go to default scapegoat …The ‘B’ word,.(I can hardly bring .myself to say it, as it is now an historic event, but we never hear the last whinge about it,).
Whinges that are supposed to display grief, but ironically display a great deal of pleasure from the perpetrators, it being their favourite pastime apparentlly. …
I ALMOST wish we had never left, but not for the reasons you lot wish you could hear when you patronise us saying we did not know what we were doing…(we did btw incidentally,) but because of the perpetual and incessant ■■■■ moaning and belly aching we have to endure.
So when moaning about the state of the world and the country,.let’s all just ignore the derisory pandemic scam and the present ongoing dictatorial aims and ambitions of a Communist war mongering regime,. because they have ■■■■ all to do.with anything pertaining to the cluster ■■■■ state of the world…it’s ALL about Brexit.
Ok got it.
Need to go now , I have an incredibly itchy arse that needs scratching…must have summet to do with Brexit.
There ya gan, you’ve won me over.

I was 50-50 on Brexit at the time - prepared to give it a go because of mass migration and because Tony Benn always said “The first thing you need to know about someone in power is how can we get rid of them” - and the EU were unelected. But after 6 years I think it’s obvious it was a catastrophe - costing us 72 billion every year and the final kick up the gonads was migration INCREASING. That’s when I turned my back on it. (They never even got shot of the drivers CPC for crying out loud!)
Sure it’s not all down to Brexit but it punched a massive hole in the finances and everything else because the tories were paralysed for years and paying no attention to anything else. They should’ve done something about the water companies years ago.
Yep but as I’ve repeatedly tried to point out to Frangers…Nothing on this earth will ever work if it is being organised, and implemented by a body who have no heart. interest, enthusiasm, let alone intention , in making it a success in the first place,… but who are instead only going through the motions because of duty alone,.so an element of negativec manipulation is also in the mix …ie The Tory government.
The result of the referendum was a big surprise to them.
The only time it will be a success is if an individual or a Party is in charge who are 100% behind it all,the only guy I can think of is Farage, …So it will never happen.
Boris was 100% behind Brexit - he still couldn’t make it work, mainly because it appears impossible to implement successfully when your major trading partner is over the channel. What else could happen except massive disruption to the supply chain? If you need border checks on everything it automatically slows it down - there’s no way around that is there?
Think the best one I heard was bus loads of passengers - when we were part of the EU the bus driver could show a pass and get waved straight through, now they have to check every passengers passport. That’s got to be at least 60 times slower.

Aye but Boris was surrounded by treacherous traitors, the same guys who managed to oust him, by catering to the hype and hullabaloo built up by him having a few bottles of Beaujolais and a vol au vent after a days work with his workmates in the same work venue …
I mean who tf really cared ?.. except of course those with an agenda,.and those daft enough to follow the stupid ■■■■ lockdown rules to the letter who later realised, (but not admitting it) , that they were taken in.
See if the Tories regret it, …love him or loathe him it was purely him who managed to get the biggest Tory majority since God knows when.
Starmer would be as happy as a pig in ■■■■ when he realised he would be standing against Sunak rather than Johnson, I bet he could not believe his luck, it played right into his hands.
Serves the ■■■■ s right when they lose the next general election.
But God help the rest of us,.although I would love it if it was a real.Labour govt with REAL labour values towards the working man… but I will not hold my breath.
Ok - lets assume Jacob Rees-Mogg is KIng - how does he stop disruption to the supply chain? The whole point of the EU was to allow free border movement - if you stop that, you get disruption in the supply chain. There’s no way around it is there? No matter how gung-ho the tories in charge are - there’s no answer except form a trading bloc like the EU. What else can you do?
I suppose you could’ve had the EU without free movement of labour - but you still need something like the EU or your goods are sat at the border with 300 pages of paperwork to go through.

Yeah but let’s face what everybody really knows…especially the Labour party.
People are shallow, it’s like the ■■■■ X Factor, most people today vote for personalities, Johnson was a personality, his dubious gung ho charisma appealed to the electorate…as I say shallow.
Why did Corbyn not get in, or Hague, or to go back even further Michael.Foot…if the same criteria applied in the 40s, Churchill would never have got in.
Rees Mogg has the charisma and appeal of a mathematician at a rave, he looks like he has just arrived from the 1930s, he’s beige, let’s face it the X Factor generation are just going to ignore him.
Now as I say Johnson or Farage are personalities that get votes.
Not saying it’s right,.just saying it’s so.

So now high energy bills are because of Brexit? Seriously give it a rest with blaming everything bad on it, it’s getting tiresome now. As for the explosion in prices, that’s the world over and includes those countries in the EU! Most of whom have had higher inflation than us, and several of which are in recession - something which we in the UK are currently not! Are things all smiles and roses here, no of course not and the current government have a lot to answer for that.

100% spot on this, something the diehard remainers refuse to admit or acknowledge. Instead it’s just easier for them to highlight the flaws from what has happened so far with Brexit, say we told you so and go down the patronising route of “you didn’t know what you were voting for”, “you were lied to” and “racist little Englanders” etc

No but as far as I can see you imply that your ‘explosion in prices’ as you put it, had something to do with it,…otherwise why bring it up as a counter argument when TMC pointed out what he sees as a result of Brexit.
The fact still remains that we have had unprecedented and regular raises in our industry since, and as a result of Brexit.
So think how worse it would be dealing with your ‘price explosion’ if we had not…
Or again, … Is the price explosion in energy bills a result of Brexit or not?

Hold your horses rob - where are you getting this idea that payrises were down to Brexit? What evidence have you got to say that? I never saw a payrise from the leave vote in 2016 vote to 2021. The payrises came AFTER covid hit and everyone went home. Brexit may have had a small effect but the payrises came after Covid, not after Brexit. And I havn’t seen “unprecedented and regular payrises as a result of Brexit”. I saw one payrise about 2 years ago after covid hit. That was it. From what I can see in the job ads pay is going back down again not up.
No, I didn’t say energy prices are down to Brexit. I said a 5% payrise 3 years ago doesn’t mean much when prices have gone up so much.
JeffA:

I did read what you said. You were responding to Dopey who mentioned unprecedented pay rises since Brexit. You then countered by saying any pay rises were wiped out with “an explosion in prices” and then you mentioned energy bills doubling so you were implying that was because of Brexit, otherwise why mention energy prices when someone says Brexit gets a “thumbs up”

He said it while providing no evidence to support his claim that payrises were due to Brexit. They wern’t, they were down to Covid. That’s why they only happened after Covid hit and have started going back down now.
That was just an example from my own personal experience - the rise in my gas bill was more than my payrise.

Ok I can’t actually prove it is down to Brexit, but all I know is since all those years since it was implemented I have had numerous pay raises, in every year since,.sometimes twice in a year, in a firm that is not famous for it’s benevolence towards it’s drivers.
Before that period,.we got the grand total of Jack sh.
So is there a connection or not, you tell me,.but if not, it is glaringly coincidental otherwise.
Btw what makes you think pay raises were down to Covid?
, I personally can not see a connection.
And where is Frangers when you need him, this is right up his strasse,.he’ll be livid he’s missing out.
I received a 20% payrise pre Covid and immediately post Brexit. The reason; supply and demand, as simple as that. Immediately post Brexit drivers were in short supply due to the exodus.
I’m not aware of any exodus from Britain due to the GLOBAL pandemic. Why would they leave?
