Bottled water?

So how do they make water?
Speaking to a chap last week with a trailer full of water at a well known supermarket RDC who had brought his load from somewhere near Carlisle.
What is the difference between “value” water and “luxury” bottled water if it all comes from the same production plant. Apart from packaging?
I guess the water is from an underground source and I imagine it is filtered and sterilised (maybe?) and in some bottles they half fill with bubbles before adding the water, but what else?
Just wondering, like you do…

Might be done the same way Delboy Trotter did his Peckham spring water , out of the tap

value bottled water is filtered mains water , not really spring water

That’s right the ‘value’ water is out of the mains supply although their excuse is it’s then filtered so works out cheaper than filtering it yourself.

I used to pick up the “ice valley” stuff from Shepley springs near Huddersfield

Takes hundreds of years to filter through natural rock then they put a best before date on it :unamused:

Many years ago when I was on diesel submarines, we used to tell the new blokes that we carried dehydrated water and made it up when we needed it.

i used to work for a bottled water company. it came from a underground spring, it was passed through a uv filter to sterilise it. some of it got bubbles but not a lot, some of it got flavoured, but most of it just got put in the bottled plain. it was one of the best jobs i’ve had.

A bit like coca colas scam then, haha.

In actual fact, that is not a :unamused: situation. All the time it is filtering through natural rock it is in darkness. As soon as it sees the light of day it deteriorates in quality.

I used to think the same as you until I actually swigged from a water bottle which had been knocking around at home for 18 months or so, it was rancid.

Harry, did you or anyone else used to stop and fill your water bottles from a spring in a layby on the A3 in Germany heading south? i think it was down past Frankfurt. it used to come down the rock.
i tried some, it was nice. It was a job getting in the layby as loads of people used to stop there and fill up bottles gerry cans and anything they could use, cars and lorries used to pull in, it was a small layby but allways full.

There’s not actually anything stopping you from bottling tap water and selling it.

Yep, there’s quite a few of these dotted around Europe, natural spring water wells in lay-bys, I always used to fill up in one of those rather than using mains water if I could.

I live quite near to Highland SPring at Blackford.I once had a pallet to take to a hotel in Glen Devon, well that pallet left Blackford went to Glasgow then Perth and back pretty much where it came from in the first place.Water is heavy stuff to move around I just thought what a pointless job.

Mmm a bit of flavour

I,ve often seen Malvern Hills spring water for sale, if only the buyers knew theres a spring at Malvern that locals/tourists just fill their bottles for free. The Victorians made several water collection points in the area, and fair play its very cold and crystal clear and gets tested every week.
