Unconfirmed reports are saying that Bob Crow will be cremated, his ashes fed to the pigeons outside Kings Cross. This will enable him to continue ■■■■ ting on Londons’ commuters for the foreseeable future.
robroy:
There is a lot of anti union feeling on here which is probably justified due to the situation in the 70s.
However the basic concept of a union is to represent employees and protect them from unfair treatment by unscrupulous employers, and at the same time improve pay and conditions.Nobody can argue that in theory this is a good concept from our point of view. However the trade unions have lost their way, same as the Labour Party, which in fact, as far as I know, originated from the Trade Unions.
As for Crow love him or hate him or his political views, he did not let down the people that he represented. If we had somebody similar to him representing us,… and as long as we were behind him, as most of Crow’s members were, we would not be working 15 hr days for one, nor working those 15 hr days for what equates in real terms for 10 hr wages as most of us do now.
He was in a no win situation with the Council house thing, people say his house could be better suited to some dead leg on the dole with 10 kids on one hand, but on the other hand if he moved to a million pound house, which rightly or wrongly he could more than likely afford, he would be accused of betraying his roots and being out of touch.
There is no way that I would like to go back to the 70s situation, but don’t knock the guy for representing and backing the working family man, because the sort of guys that do are a rarity these days.
It’s odd but I think there is a pro union stance on here after reading this thread with all but a couple, me included, thinking we should all be in one.
The problem, as I see it, with regards to having a union that would support all transport, is that this industry is now so big & fractured that it would be unworkable regardless of who was in charge. Could you really see drivers on even £12 an hour in Kent willing to go on strike to support drivers from a different company on £7 an hour in Carlisle? I cannot.
This industry is not militant enough to ever get together & do anything worthwhile. It’s not like other jobs where you see workmates everyday & talk about any problems, you might not see people for a week, there’s guys on other shifts I’ve never even seen in 3 months. If anyone has any ideas cough them up, I’m free from sept, DCPC permitting.

There was sort of an agreement within the old BRS/ Exel companies where most depots excluding London had a national agreement where pay and conditions were very much the same
London had always had a pay agreement called “London Waiting”
Where pay was slightly higher
I’ve posted on here that I was a senior shop steward within the old
TGWU the thing about Road Transport within the TGWU is that it was always a small voice within a big union for years there were different sections ie Own account hire and reward so we formed a group called
RTC ( Road Transport Committee )
So we could concentrate solely on Road Transport this worked well for many years as I’ve also posted previously regarding holidays Bank Holiday payments overtime etc
Most regions within TGWU had a body called the JIC (Joint Industrial Committee )
I sat on the East Midlands JIC along with representatives from other union branches as well as employers from large and small companies and we would reach an agreed wage increase plus other benefits ( yes we did talk and sometimes it got heated from both sides we gave in as so did the employers) but what did happen is that the majority of decent companies did pay the agreed pay rises
Each year a TGWU national pay claim was put forward it was always above inflation but it was a target we always aimed for
My point is it could of worked but maybe not nationally as you’ll always get some dubious employers who wouldn’t pay a wage rise and in life there’s always people that don’t stick together and there’s always union leaders who’ve got their own
agendas in my opinion it would of been good if each JIC area companies would pay drivers the
agreed pay rise so at least there would be some parity if you worked in say the North East most decent companies would pay roughly the same just my thoughts that’s all

to mike68,i had a dig at you because of what i thought you said on the bob crow post,i now realise i got it wrong big time and would like to apologise ref idiotic views, sad little men,i now see it was thereal-john who posted it so again apologiesand to thereal-john i will say this,it is a forum where drivers are entitled to their views whether right or wrong even though you are a senior member you should respect that without insulting other drivers,if you do not like respecting such views without feeling the need to insult then stay off this site, its as simple as that
I would just like to point out senior member doesn’t mean much. Anyone with over 25 posts I think would make you senior. As you were
senior or not my answer still stands to anybody who comes on here to insult other drivers, if they cant give a reasonable argument or answer without insults then stay off the site

Well at least there will now be one extra council house available in London for a deserving low income family, over 110k salary a year and living in social housing hypocrite96k is the latest figure in the Indy. A mortgage on those earnings would just about buy my 3 bed terrace in SE London. Hardly the high life,is it?

happy for you if your wages are such that you can look at 96k and say it isn’t a decent amount, would say that most people on here would beg to differ. Knock 25k from 96k and he is still earning a similar sum to an MP hardly on a poverty income.
Whoosh…

That’s why I don’t come on this particular part of Trucknet very often as you can’t get a mature debate and that’s probably why Road Transport and society in general have gone to the dogs
The man was out of touch with the general public, the general public will never support strike to get payrises in the current climate most people think they should be greatful greatful for the work rather than how much can you get out of them.

Please excuse us socially inept lorry drivers for not being on the same superior intellectual plane as yourself.
May I suggest that perhaps you would be better suited on a forum that would achieve the standard of debate, that would befit your required level of IQ.
Thebabydragon.
The general brainwashed public terrify the hell outa me, they voted for the blair creature in their millions, returning him three times for Christs sake, and a lot of the reason is because the media tell them what to do and they follow blindly sheep like.
Click on the daily mail propaganda machine today, you’ll see some lovely pics of blair with murdoch and his then wife (or vice versa), what a lovely bunch of nice fiends they made.
Wasn’t there a German leader around the time of the second world war elected by his then general public.
A few people here have mentioned the anti union stance of our press, I think this is the reason so many are anti union, its years of brain washing, but remember our press have thier own agenda, they are owned by people who don’t want us the workforce to feel free to demand more.
They run stories about benefit scroungers whilst they evade paying millions in tax. They run stories about unions and their leaders holding the country to ransom, whilst they do deals behind closed doors taking away more of our rights.
When you understand this you’ll read between the lines and understand they have an agenda to brainwash you to thier right wing anti worker, pro rich opinion.

Totally agree a lot of people on here have probably never had to stick together for better pay and conditions they’re the I’m alright Jack brigade I’ll just sit and be quiet and let somebody else fight my battles whilst they reap the benefits
They’re more concerned about whose lorries bigger and more powerful and how many spot and marker lights they can fit no doubt using their own money to make their trucks look like mobile discos

Are you an actual adult? I was just wondering seeing as you could come back with such an immature retort (which ironically accuses me of being immature ) followed by such an inane and somewhat irrelevant attempt at
an insult.
As for your offer of YOU trying to educate me , err thanks but no thanks .

Very much an adult I was just trying to drop down to your mentality regarding having a mature debate about Bob Crow and unions in general after you posted a comment about me replying to another post on here I’ve looked in the Collins Dictionary and I quote (Whoosh) is a childish/childlike saying of noise which sounds similar to wind or a fast moving sound/ object

You keep referring to maturity which is a bit ironic being that you resorted to an immature series of poorly thought out insults as a reaction to sarcasm, which incidentally was only instigated by your initial groundless general opinion of members on this forum.
note…;Keep your dictionary at hand to look up any more words that you have difficulty in comprehending.

Well they do say sarcasm is the cheapest form of wit my friend
and if childish comments I assume do amuse you then I’m just trying to form an opinion of what intelligence you may possess because obviously i can’t recall you actually posting any worthwhile sensible comments on this topic regarding the pros and cons of Bob Crow or Trade Unions

At the risk of appearing to be pedantic to you (as well as all the other negative labels that you bizarrely feel qualified to accuse me of ) I think you will find that the adage is “lowest” not " cheapest" form of wit.
As for my opinions on Bob Crow posted by me on previous pages of this thread, not appearing to you as being either worthwhile or sensible, perhaps you could constructively indicate the points that you refer to, at least then it would be a more mature tactic rather than throwing insults at me, and at the same time probably result in the more mature debate that you say you strive unsuccessfully to achieve on this forum
And so another topic disappears down the road of petty childlike abuse, to be fair I’m surprised it lasted this long. And some people wonder why we cannot get anything done as a group.

Yeh maybe you are right mate, sorry for my part in it , maybe I’m a bit to quick to bite, it’s just the way I react rightly or wrongly, to insults without relevant grounds. But I notice he did not react when I called his bluff.
