Blue lights

See loads of lorries with blue LED lights decorated all over them, are they legal?. Remember about 10/15 years ago my mate got nicked in his vauxhall nova for having blue sidelight bulbs, apparently he was impersonating a police car by having blue lights.

as long as they not flashing then it’s ok

They’re legal as long as they don’t move or flash, but sidelights are illegal

you can have them as sidelights in addition to your normal 2 white ones…but blues are dead on so long as they don’t flash,or go meee maw…

Having blue lights that do not flash it not an offence, the offence is displaying a light to the front that it is not white or amber as they are the only colour lights that can be displayed.

That’s correct for mandatory lights but marker lights etc. are non-mandatory and can be any colour.

Blue xenon headlamp bulbs are illegal unless they were original equipment

My mate fitted screen washer jets with blue lights in them to his Punto and it failed the mot on them facing forwards! He put them back on after the test…and later got pulled by the Police and given a warning, he gave up with them then! :unamused:

Pete.

If they’re fixed to the bonnet they are legal, but you can’t have them fixed to the wiper arm.

Only white or amber facing forward surely? Anything else is against the law.

Only white or amber on legally required lights, any other lights are extras and can be any colour as long as they don’t move or flash.

Try reading the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 before you comment.

Blue in any way shape or form is illegal.

Amber/white to the front
Amber to the side
Red/amber to the rear

RVLR prohibits red to the front, any other colour to the front is permitted as long as it isn’t flashing.

It’s no good reading the 1989 regulations now as things have changed since then allowing more colours, though not in mandatory lights

After flicking through the 89 regulations it does indeed appear that I was wrong and I apologise to everyone for commenting incorrectly.

Yep, mate of mine did the same in his Scooby, shot past a car on a slip road one day & the bloke was off duty Fuzz, he reported it & they called round his house & arrested him, took him to the station & questioned him as to why he was impersonating & Police Officer. He got off with it but didn’t play silly buggers again.

years ago my mate got nicked in his vauxhall nova.

He got nicked CAUSE he was in the NOVA.

i am sure they are legal if static ie not flashing, why sell them if they are illegal in halfrauds etc?
