Blue lights

It seems the chav boy racers of the 90s are now all HGV drivers carrying on their chav traditions.

war1974:
i am sure they are legal if static ie not flashing, why sell them if they are illegal in halfrauds etc?

Lots of things get sold which aren’t legal to use on the road such as show plates. You don’t use them on the road, simples.

yes lots of illegal things get sold but not normally via major high street chains, and i still say as long as not flashing they are ok.

but it would seem after a quick search that as per normal they have decide they can make money from joe public see below from a police website so i stand corrected

bring back the 1990’s

Blue lights: The law states that only emergency vehicles can display blue lights so it is an offence if your vehicle has any LED or neon under-vehicle lighting system or lights on windscreen, washer jets or number plates emitting a blue light. The motorist could receive a £30 Fixed Penalty Notice and or be reported to court.

Fog lights: For vehicles fitted with front fog lights (rear fog lights are also included), it is an offence to illuminate them unless visibility is seriously reduced, which is defined as driving in rain, snow or fog with visibility less than 100 metres. Fog lights cause dazzle to other drivers and can attract a £30 Fixed Penalty Notice.

Other lights:It’s an offence to show a red light to the front of a vehicle (including a reflector) and a white light to the rear unless reversing. Once again these offences are dealt with by means of a £30 Fixed Penalty Notice. It does not matter if the lights are mounted inside or outside the vehicle, just that the light can be seen from the outside. This would also include neon lights fitted under or on the side of a vehicle and red LED windscreen washer jets. Green lights can only be fitted on Medical Practitioners vehicles.

I think it’s about time the law starting jumping on those idiots who insist on having their fog lights on as well as dipped headlamps when visibility is not seriously reduced, would get enough revenue in a fortnight to pay or national debt :imp:

i leave my dipped light on 24.7 when driving as pricks still seem to not be able to see me.

also that would mean every volvo driver breaks the law!

i do agree with fog lights both front and rear (especially in ■■■■■■■ rain!). :imp:

a white light to the rear unless reversing

or it is lighting up the rear number plate

But number plates lights do not shine to the rear, they supposedly shine sideways or down only to illuminate your plate

so when these new cars turn a corner and the left or right hand fog light comes on what offence is committed :open_mouth: these lights P me off

I’m not going to take the credit of pointing this fact out, I will leave it for Coffeeholic to take it, how he knows is anyones guess :smiling_imp:

leaving the legality issue aside for a moment are you sure you want blue lights given what they signify?

If you aren’t already aware blue lights are used by the gay dogging community to advertise the fact they are up for a bit of, err, ahem, ‘fun’. Pull into some lay-bys with your blue lights on and don’t be surprised if you are suddenly very popular with some of the male car drivers lurking there. If you decide to keep them it might be an idea to pack a few condoms and maybe a tube of KY just in case.

Only white or amber facing forward surely? Anything else is against the law.

Only white or amber on legally required lights, any other lights are extras and can be any colour as long as they don’t move or flash.

Try reading the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 before you comment.

Blue in any way shape or form is illegal.

Can you point to the part where it says all blue lights are illegal? I can’t for the life of me find anything other than the section on blue beacons and special warning lamps which is what the new flashing LED’s are classed as
