Hi Dennis,
Was it DJ Leddington from Kingswinford, he ran a Seddon with a coiler and later switched to a Seddon Atkinson, he may well still be operating.

Leddingtons are certainly still on the go. I see young Alan from time to time, I’ll point him in this direction, and maybe he’ll get his dad on here too !!!
Hey Carl, thanks for putting my pics back in the limelight mate!!!
The middle pic is a pic of my old mans truck,i should know as i was standing next to him with my brother when he took it,also their are some pics of me and my brother in it on the thread. It was taken on the first weekend my old man came home in it after doing his first trip to Europe in it.
I remember spending countless hours polishing it and travelling with him during the school holidays(and when i should have been at school lol).
Ill always be indebted to old man Furzy Butler for giving me the chance to go with my old man all over the country, wouldnt be allowed to do it now with all the bloody “elf and safety”.
My old dads retired now but slowly but surely the itch is coming back!!!.
Some good old firms being mentioned on this here thread, sadly many of them now defunct.
hey jase im hoping to get some pics off mick (mtb) barnsley he said ask ya dad if he remembers him.i remember you posting em mate i didnt use the ones with yerself in.i used the ones with just the truck (hope ya dont mind mate)as i think the pics help jog memories more than words.mick remembers them motors in your picks.when mick left butlers he went to tank freight he said he liked working for furzy butler good times
here ya go jase furzy in the new marathon
No Carl,I don’t mind you using them at all, after all what’s the saying,“a picture speaks a thousand words”. I’ll try and find somemore out when I get back home on Thursday.
Heres some more pictures of P.J.Butlers & sons trucks.
Moving on from the Leyland Marathons.to the Leyland Roadtrains, the Scanias and finally Seddon Atkinson Strato.
Heres my dads Roadtrain,ex Curries of Dumfries, absolute cracking truck, loaded with paper reels, all roped and sheeted, not many curtainsiders then.
Then came the Scanias, makes me chuckle how we managed to sleep 3 in a p cab lol!!,first pic was taken at the site of the National Eistedfford at Portmadog in 1987,first trip for it to collect some Portakabins.
and then back in the yard
Then came the Sed Ak stratos, tipping timber in Birmingham, back in the yard, all waxed and cleaned.
In between the Y reg Roadtrain and the Scania,he had a c reg Roadtrain which i thought was useless,so i never took any pics of it.
Also,a chap down at the old cvrc show at Gaydon this year had built a model of one of the Marathons.
Looked absolutely stunning.
Now after all those years of going with my dad and completing an apprenticeship at Keltruck West Bromwich,i’ve followed in his footsteps and now drive this, may count as a Black country firm as we once had a depot in Oldbury lol

Hi WILLENHALL, This is an old Turpins motor I had, though I don’t know much about them. Bought it from a third party as a run about, but it got pressed into normal work and although getting on a bit performed very well.
Have you seen the thread on ‘Firms Around Walsall’? It’s way back now but I’ll try and get it up here.

Apologies if I’ve put this photo on here before, but I do remember Cameron and Gibbon from Smethwick. It was taken at Aberdeen and the AEC MK3 MM was loaded with shotblast for back home. The driver looks well chuffed and so he should,AECs got a rad blind, only one wiper though but that won’t matter, and he’s got a ■■■ going, ready to set off back home. Two days to get back to Smethwick if it’s got a 6-speed box, three days if a five speed, and (sorry ) if it was a BRS contract motor with a red and rust driver maybe four days ---------------over to Norm and Harry
One of my favourite pics…
