Seeing as you live in the area Steve. why don’t you Google “Bison Fute” or look at a Routier map of the area. :unamused:

Hi steve,
If you are looking at route from pau thro to Spain via col du somport I came from Spain in June and there is a height and weight limit on the French side past oloron Saint Mariesorry I can’t tell you dims etc as I was in a car coming back to uk . Hope this helps a little take care safe journey , regards Dennis

I already looked on Bison but coudnt find route planner, and maps in truck 3 hours from home, I knew someone on here would have the info I wanted.

Thanks for your advice

Steve

Thanks dieseldennis2

Not much weight on, a few ton max and max height of 4 metres

Steve

Hi steve, the height limiter is in the form of a gantry all across the road when I came down there was a double deck cattle truck being loaded by smaller trucks and tractor and trailers in a lay by they were bringing cattle down from top side of barrier but to be honest didn’t,t see any trucks going thro at all so barrier could be less than 4 metres.good luck Dennis

Steve, when i used to go to Spain from the Pau/Lourdes area I used to use the N134/E7 from Oloron Sainte Marie via Somport and into Spain. It’s been a while but checking on the Michelin routiers map, I can’t see any height or weight restrictions. It was an arduous route, but the scenery was something to write home about, especially in the winter.

Thanks for that

I will give it a try

Steve

Hi again Steve,
Just been on the French equivalent of this forum (FDR) and asked for info on your behalf, giving all the details that you’ve supplied. The drivers that replied all agree with the route that has been suggested by me and Diesel, down to Oloron Saint Marie, then the E7/N134 to Col du Somport and over the border into Spain.
Have a safe journey

Cheers for that
Very Helpful

Best Regards

Steve

For anyone interested

Loaded PAU and was advised by driver from the factory I was loading at, Who was also going to same destination as me, Not to use 134 Somport, It has been closed for roadworks but is now reopened but is still a ■■■■ road and better to do Bayonne/Irun…So I did.

Thanks for all your input

Steve

PS
Bl**dy hot down here

Well done Steve for the feedback on your trip.
It’s really nice to have people that asked for advice, come back to let those that have tried to help know how they got on.
Glad it went ok.

Cheers Pierrot, would have been rude not to,
Repacking trailer today when the rest of the crew get out of bed, and heading back to base, hopefully not setting off till morn, Its only 930am and its around 30 degrees.

Thanks again for your help

Steve

I have done the Somport route to get to a cake/biscuit factory in Huesca Spain.
The route in France before the border was very scenic.Green valleys through twisty roads. It was similar to Switzerland or Austria.

hi steve, pleased all went well and you managed to get the route sorted ok from all the info from different sources
anyway thanks for posting reply and hope all goes well on the return journey. take care regards dennis

Hi Toby

I fancied going over Somport, but I was taking a Race Transport trailer, very low, Tandem axle that really cuts the corners, I collected Race car from factory near Pau, and the factory truck driver advised not to use the pass, I was on a tight schedule and couldnt afford any delay so went usual route, Irun etc,
I sometimes get down that way on bike and will make a point of checking it out for future trips

Many British tourists flock to Andulcia Southern Spain’s beach resorts.
But Northern Spain is better.Vigo and Galicia areas has some fabulous beaches.Green mountains.Great local dishes.
