Best route to bala

Anyone got any ideas guildford to Bala, from the M54,A5 then A494? Is there a better route? Thanks.

That’s the way I’d go, in fact I can’t think of any other way really. If you need to park, you used to be able to park on the car park as you come into Bala, left at the traffic lights, if not then you can park further down that road on the industrial estate where Travis Perkins is.

just don’t wear an england top like my mate did when he had a night out there…it was like the scene in the slaughtered lamb in the american werewolf in london…lol

Thank you Mr.Monk it’s the only way I can see as well, never mind should fill my day

Very pretty part of the world, I used to go to Bala then from there along that A4212 to Bleanau Ffestiniog, on a map it looks like you wouldn’t dare venture onto it but it’s probably one of the best roads in the area. Used to stop and cook up a bit of breakfast next to that big reservoir there, very pleasant.

Just ask Carryfast the way. He’s never been but he knows everything

Check the local paper. That sort of thing makes the front page in Bala.

Be aware that VOSA run checkpoints on that car park in Bala on a regular basis

In Bala, it’s a lake, called Bala Lake

Used to ride there a lot on the motorbike after doing the Horseshoe Pass over Llangollen, stopping at The Ponderosa for some grub.

Remember one time, at The Ponderosa, there was 3 bikers there. That was us 3, it was raining that hard, nobody else ventured out, free refills on the coffee’s

And don’t mention Capel Celyn

All very pretty part of the world, filmed this there a while ago. Little bit further over than Bala tho.

The car park on the left just going into is ok to park in,regarding the road you take to blaenau it as some stunning views.
The route suggested is the one i always take

Incorrect. The lake Harry Monk describes on the A4212 (Bala to Trawsfynydd road) is called Llyn Celyn. Under there somewhere is a village that was buried underwater when the valley was flooded to provide water for the Scousers.

This brought back a few memories, back in the early sixties i worked on that reservoir with a friend we bought a Commer ts3 tipper 8 cu yard body the rate was half a crown a yard and you could do a circuit in 30mins so two pounds an hour sounds like a pittance now but was pretty good then, running on red at one and six a GALLON, only problem was the weather it rained most of the time and it became almost impossible to get round unless you had a Euclid or something similar so we pulled off the job as we also had a few probs with the truck, Happy days lying under the truck in a puddle holding up the diff while my mate put the bolts in, lovely. Take Care Melv.   .
