Bedford TM

Not 'arf Pete! Remember? He did the narrow cab before but reckon he might do the full width one soon. Be a good model ay?

here’s the Detroit TM we had on Eurtoroute. It did Middle East alongside a couple of Fodens, a few Daf’s and a 141.

you not seen the model on his site ash?, howard’s got a picture of the components of the model on there. it is a full width cab and its looking good mate. im saving up for it now…lol. pete

That TM with extended cab and V8 Detroit ended its days as a wrecker, ive seen a pic somwhere of it fitted with underlift gear, think it may have been an AWD dealership who had it.

Some nice pic’s of TM’s. Took me back to the mid 80’s.I worked for a west London Bedford dealership.Probably one of few to road test L10 250-290’s , E 290,s detroits and Bedfords own motor, I think it was an 8.3L . They were not top notch motors but good workhorses, their drivers either loved them or hated them,no in between.

.

HI Ash I’m not sure If thats the one I remember, It was blue IIRC and I’m sure the exhaust (or maybe it was the air intake) went through the spoiler

Here is a picture of one I had for a few weeks

TM’s were the first artics i drove, for Cooks of Cornwall,in 1993 after passing my test.
They ran four,an L10 250bhp,two 14litre 290’s and a 14litre 370.
I did local work for them and changeovers at Gordano.
I never got to drive the 370,but at twenty one years old and before speed limiters had arrived, perhaps it was just aswell.

Do you mean this one? Wonder if anyone has any history on the truck/driver .There was a thread going a while back about Hercocks .It is a rear animal though.

thats the one Rob prob be about 83ish it looked odd at the time, the fella reckoned he had a shower built in any ideas ?

No unfortunately no background about the truck .I bought it off Truckphotos4sale (apologies for posting…copyright and all that) as it looked unique.Just wondered if any ex Hercock drivers on here knew the subbie at all.

Davnic,

Was that Cooks of Hayle ■■ - Used to run with them in mid to late 80’s when we used to do the spud bulkers off Lands End for Walkers Crisps - Leicester, they had TM’s, also ran with the Oates boys from Penzance, are they still going ■■

I used to drive the one and only wide cab TM on the Streets fleet in the 80 s . All the rest of the fleet was 232 and 310 Maggie Deutz . Last 3 of the reg was DTT but I cant remember the rest and I lost my photo s . This one had the V8 Detroit , a lovely piece of kit . If anyone has a photo of this truck or any of the Streets fleet , it would be good to see them

Yes Ant,It was Cooks of Hayle, cream and brown with orange lettering.
Sadly no longer running,Hirvine Cook passed away 2001/02 and one of his sons continued running lorries (D.W.Cook-Transport,white Strato units) until a couple of years ago when his main customer,an engineering co. moved operations to the midlands.
He then ran a 3.5t Sprinter and a 7.5t MAN on “hotshot” work for the M.O.D out of RNAS Culdrose, carrying aircraft engines etc. until late last year when poor health forced the decision to pack up altogther.
Dennis Oates are still running, virtually 100% fridges,on fish from Newlyn and supermarket work for a meat packing company.
When i left school,1988,my first job was drivers mate and general dogsbody with West Cornwall Storage and Distribution, who ran green and red ERF’s on much the same work as Cooks,Oates,Chris Miners,Aldridges etc.
Do you remember WCSD?

Hi Davnic,
Don’t remember WCSD, but all the others I remember running with - forgot about Chris Miners !! - Seem to remembr a lad named Kevin I think (memories going now) on one of the TMs for Cooks.

We used to base ourselves on Trewent Truckstop (Texeco) Rods, boy - had some drunken night’s on there in Rods little bar at the back and in the Jamaca Inn down the road - good times on the spud job.

Do you have any photo’s of the Cornish bigade trucks - used to have some but they got destoyed by a bitter ex wife !!!

Ant
