Just been looking through some old copies of TRUCK, for Bedford add’s, got some great colour Bedford TM add’s which i will scan & post sometime this week… time permitting,
Wynn’s were using TM 4200 6x4 units in the sudan back in 78.
Oct 1976 TRUCK mag has an add showing a TM unit coupled to a tilt belonging to H, G, Brown International, of leighton buzzard, Its a brand new 6x4 demo unit with air con on the roof. If Brown’s were assessing it, I dont know how far they sent it ?
I had a TM for a while , about 1990, did’nt have a detroit though, 290 L10
Hi Mark
In the early 80s I drove a TM for trailer repair firm which belonged to Rousel Pharmacutical before .They had at least 2 for european deliveries both 290 14 ltr ■■■■■■■ 1 full sleeper the other a Locomotors of Andover conversion we had both.

By whiplash_012 at 2008-11-13.Seabourne Express used to come into Dublin each morning with these beauties, but only when the KM`s???were retired.
There was a guy who had a purple 430 Detroit engined TM (ex Swiss) doing Italy in the early 80’s from Poole I think. That was when “Big” motors were 350’s. The nearest competition he had was Rycrofts Kenworth.
From the foto of the “Italian Spec 400”, in the corner of the grill…is that a Detroit Diesel badge or Detroit Diesel Allison badge? Mebbe it was coupled to an Allison auto box.
the m.e.b (powerhouse, green lane walsall) used to have a few tm drawbar versions with sleeper cabs.fitted with the detroit, you could hear them coming.what a growl !!.
Someone used to run abroad in the 80’swith a TM with an extended cab. I saw it it Dover quite often I even had a pic at one time. I believe it had the V8 rather than the V6 Detriot. It had a wedge shaped roof extension and the exhaust went through the air ‘wings’ making it look like it went through the roof, I bet Ash has a pic

If I’m not mistaken the V6 was fitted in the narrow cab version the V8 and 14ltr ■■■■■■■ went in the wide version, I used to see a number of BOC Transhield shipping out of Dover with their big ■■■■■■■ engined TM’s around 88/89.

always thought the wide cab tm was a nice truck for its day, looked quite modern and spacious, but what was the reality?
I had a couple of the narrow cabbed 4 wheelers when I took over as TM at Courtauld’s in Bulwell and they were very spacious inside. From memory there was very little engine intrusion into the cab but the biggest problem was the high lip between the floor level and the outside step. One of my drivers tripped on that and fell head first to the ground fracturing his skull in the process.
Only one i drove was a 16t rigid in the early 80s, had a Bedford 500 engine with the Locomotors “Nightrider” sleeper conversion.
I remember the telescopic gearstick seemed about 4 ft long and ime sure it got stuck under my left armpit on many an occasion when trying to get into 5th!
Also , because it was fitted with a dual passenger seat, the easiest way to get into the bunk was to use the “Fosbury Flop” method !!

I’ve been searchin’ high and low for the photo Gavin!
This is the only 1 I can recall which had a extended cab. The guy was from Manchester and traded as A W D Truckin’.
I looked inside and it was pretty basic, just lots more headroom and a big bed.
I distinctly remember it pulling away after I took the photo and the Detriot sound was awesome!
