Nice pics Joe,
How many eight wheelers are running at the moment and is that FM the newest ?
Also, what is with the aggregates4u livery, are you re-branding?
Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark, only running three 8 wheelers at the moment.
The aggregates 4u is our on line shop where we sell decorative aggregates nationwide
Cheers Joe
How long do you keep your wagons for? Your 4w Volvo (P reg) looks nice for it’s age it get’s into Gill Mill quite a bit.
Joe:
Cracking lorry. My Dad and uncle had artic units like that, my first lorry was a rigid 8w on an F reg. I’d drive an old 4000 tomorrow if Smiths bought one back…
the latest 8 wheeler looks very smart now alot better with the alcoas on
Joe, are you taking wagons to Gaydon this year? I’ll probably take Mini-Muckaway to his first truck show

Hi Nathan, it depends on mileage and the type of work their on, we still have an L-Reg FL10 tractor unit which we use for a spare motor, all the P-Reg’s are gone now, the oldest rigid tipper is a W-Reg.

They were a cracking lorry, this one was a double drive with a 400 Cat in it, in its day a big engine, we sold it to a guy who exported it to New Zealand. Were they Smiths artics your dad and uncle had ?

Yes Joe. Do you remember the G reg that Phil Knight had at Banbury Premix? When Phil got a W reg new for the 44t limit, Uncle Allan came off the S reg low loader unit that Andrew had at Banbury until recently, and took it on as he wanted a run down to retirement. Just before he had the Y reg new that’s now at Stratford Premix, he trained Dad on the G reg to get his Class 1 (to do Blackthorn with) who ran it for a just under a year until he got Smiths first new shape Alpha.
I remember Phil Knight well, is he still with Smiths or has he reached retirement ?

Still there, hauls the bag trailer quite a bit: he’s due to retire within the next 12months I think. I bet Bubbenhall will miss him!

Smart wagon, but the body looks to be rather clumsy looking to be on black? (High sides)
Remember a lad this way on having such a body on an ERF back in the mid 80s and it was an ex corn tipper.
Set it off on quarry work and second load he was directed to the tar plant despite it having no insulation. (Due to a major surfacing job locally)
It was a bit tricky tipping for long periods (body in the air and being pushed by the Barber Green) but he made do that day.
Had a couple of days away whilst the body was cut down slightly and tin slapped on the sides and when it was back it was spot on for the job.
