If its in your contract and your shift falls on that day its a bummer i’ve had jobs like this but on bright side you have full time job.
Its not law to get paid any extra for bank holidays just nice to be able to get it, my company tend not to work them but we get paid 8hrs for being off, if we was to go in for a job it would normal rate plus 8hrs on top
When I worked annual hours at Tesco if I was scheduled to work a bank holiday we still got time and a half and an extra day off, we just couldn’t refuse unless by special arrangement.
If we were not scheduled and worked we got x3 pay and a day off, I remember working one bank holiday at Brickmills and my pay worked out at 27 quid an hour and that was in 1997.
On this side of the pond we don’t get s**t … we only get 6 public holidays and then we are lucky if we get them off, I do however get a days holiday pay on top of my earnings for the day. Most companies will pay nothing extra. They expect all emploees to be available for work at one minute after midnight on Christmas day / Boxing day (which they do not observe). I refuse to work on Boxing day and bosses don’t like that, except my old employers ‘St Anns’ who, after a couple of years of me working there made Boxing day a day off.
Bank Holidays are classed as normal working shift’s for us but we get 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays and were paid double time,so in affect were getting double time plus a day in lieu paid at average earnings for working and some of our driver’s still think theyre hard done to…
dessy:
Bank holidays are included in the 28 day annual leave entitlement! Sorry to hear that Harry!
Dessy, you got brainwashed by the fundamental terrorists ( I mean STOBART MANAGERS ) who added 8 public holidays to THEIR ( way of thinking ) I mean 20 days holiday pal! 28 days PLUS bank holidays! I’ll see them in court, Dessy
