Axminster transport

Thanks Dennis and Steve for your response. Will try and catch up with you Dennis , I think Dave Miller is coming to west bay 13th 14th August if you are around. Can’t believe this is 35 plus years ago, look at those ultra modern thermo king fridge units. Just through the Mont Blanc Italian side en route to Greece.

Was this really work or was it one long holiday, we certainly made the most of it . I have a good friend in West Bay his wife always tells me I have never had a proper job. I could never have stuck clocking in at 8 in the morning and out at 5 in the evening.

Nearly made me feel like a lorry driver again when coming back from Spain with the van. Can’t believe it’s 30 years ago that I finished working for Axminster Transport.

Passed here today ,brought back some memories.

Slowly making our way north, few years ago you would only have been going to stop at one place from here, sadly Victors has been closed for some time now. Good memories.

Sadly indeed Cliff. That used to be a very good place to sfop.
Still there are lots of good places remaining in Spain, more probably than anywhere else.
Have a good trip matey.

Especially if for the weekend and always plenty more establishments to visit , remember them well

I do hope Dennis that you are not refering to those places that had all the coloured lights and neon tubes outside?

I went into any number of them but never found one that served a decent dinner. :sunglasses:

David

Here’s a place there are actually 2 routiers still open and very good too, the first one Bernie Fidi R.I.P. from Framptons always had a row with the car park man at night because of fridges.I’m sure I don’t know what you boy’s are talking about with these establishments Dennis and David.

I should hope you don’t, young chap like you. :unamused:

Used to get an first-class steak at Liposthey. I remember the night parking man too - never had any trouble with fridges though! Robert

Away from the area of Victors and back to food Liposthey or Castets used to be very good food at either stop but I think as Robert says the steaks at Liposthey were a bit better .Dennis

Castets was a bit of a bun-fight; but the thing I loved about Castets was that there was plenty of room to park; you always found drivers you knew to dine with; the wine, though ‘plonk’ was always plentiful and no one minded you re-filling the carafes; the food was standard but very acceptable and the staff were friendly. For North-Africa drivers it was a winner. Castets, like Victors, was one of those love-it-or-hate-it places! Robert

Thanks Dave ,Robert, and Dennis, I called in Castets Sunday lunchtime full of lorries and they were closing at 15.30hrs.

Does the whiff of the toilets/showers still come up the stairs to the bar Cliff ?

Your slacking a bit Cliff !

Oh, nice one DEANB! Robert

DEANB , good to have you back . You been missed .Cheers Dennis

A la Miguels??

Another proper stop that one…
I have a fond memory of Jim Bailey singing an opera tune from bottom of stairs there… Merv the Swerve in attendance…
Left there at silly o’clock and a found a Framptons lad , In car park , wallet on the ground in the dirt and potholes that all will remember…
Serious amount of money scattered around ( back in the good old days of pesetas etc… Keys as well and no idea what day ( or night ) it was… Minus 10 outside.
Put it and him to bed…

Up at 5 Lisbon bound and matey already gone!

Thanks to Kerbut, Robert, Dennis, Dean, and Baldrick for your input. Must admit didn’t smell anything coming up the stairs Nigel. Robert your right about the steak at liposthey they were good , I quite liked the second restaurant past the first one turn right at cross roads and then up to the end of the road on the right hand side would always be open a little bit later . Dean great to see you back on here hope all is well with you ,Geoff asked me the other day if I had heard from you, I am struggling a bit with pics at the moment. Baldrick Miguels was another great stop unfortunately it is another one that has closed down the Alaska is still open though. This one has just opened again under new management didn’t have chance to stop and check it out.
