That looks better, seen to many on their side

Looks like one of those pics the regular photographer used to take of trucks embarking at Ouestraham (Caen) to display / sell on board! I’ve still got a couple  Robert

Thanks for the pics Ade and thanks robthedog for turning the picture the right way I don’t know how to do that.

It’s weird, loaded it “the right way up” but it appeared in the thread on it’s side. If you click on it to view, it loads “the right way up”. Strange but well sorted Rob.

I think you are right Robert and it will be similar on the 2 Magnum pictures on the North Africa thread. The 3 pictures are hung on the walls in Bob’s house. The quality doesn’t look great here as I photographed the pictures with my wife’s I phone. The real pictures are excellent and would look much better if I could scan then and repost. Only minor issue is, I’m in Leicester and Bob’s in South Wales…… Adrian

Bless you, Adrian! Here is one of the pics taken as I embarked on the Caen boat returning from Morocco in the early two-thousands! Robert

Some of the advertising material,a lot of these pictures have been lent to me by Peter the boss of Axminster Transport.

Here’s the boss going on the the train on the first shuttle service.

Cliff, shame theres not a few more of the older drivers on here that could add some more pics/stories !
Mind you its amazing how many drivers never used to take a camera with them, and i think they regret it
later in life when you look back.

Dean, I’m sure we all regret not having enough pictures of the early days but, at least in my case, we really did not realise that we were doing anything special (and we were having so much fun doing it there was no time for taking pictures) but mostly it just wasn’t so easy when it was film that had to get developed at the Chemist and the crap pictures cost the same to develop as the good ones. Also photos were easy to loose / damage /give to women that seemed important at the time!

David

Thanks Ade, Robert ,Dean and David for your input , I’m not sure if Dave is implying I wandered round with a camera instead of getting on with my work Dean but ha! Ho! as he said we were enjoying ourselves.

One more.

Not as clear as it should be, this is in the yard at Chard.

Someone spent a lot of time washing them wheels, long before all the alloy wheels.

From a small market town in East Devon I travelled most of Europe in the 70s and 80s with this company .France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Yugoslavia, Greece ,Ireland, and the Rock of Gibraltar. I loved every minute of it along with my work colleagues at the time.

Hi Cliff we were the lucky ones as when we did the job we used to get delayed at the borders back in the day. Therefore we had more of a social life while waiting to clear customs. When the borders came down the game changed, you know as well as I when that happened every week going south there would be some poor sod going your way and wanted to tag along as he didn’t know the way or the ropes entailed doing the job. Then it became a matter of going from A to B as quick as possible and back, and not being able to run North over the weekend the job was F…d. All I will say is that we had the best times and the best mates you could ever have, and not only English mates.Cheers Cliff see you soon Geoff

We did have a good time back then Geoff times that drivers will never experience again, and some strange happenings, I once took a load of cheese from England to Clermont Ferrand in France,on arrival I was told the cheese was not good enough . I phoned back to our office told them the situation, about 1 hour later the exporter phoned me at the office of the delivery point no mobile phones then ,asking me have you got the blue book Cliff, yes I replied, O.K. good he replied take the load to Copenhagen.
