Axminster go into administration

AXMINSTER GOING INTO ADMINISTRATION
By Graeme Evans, Press Association
Historic carpet maker Axminster is to go into administration in a move putting 400 jobs at risk.
The Devon-based company, which dates back 250 years, said the decision will provide the company and its creditors with time to explore various rescue options.
Director Joshua Dutfield said: "Trading has been difficult and the management has been working with key suppliers, creditors and the lenders in an attempt to resolve the company’s financial difficulties.
“We continue to be committed to working to achieve the best possible outcome for all concerned and most importantly the staff and suppliers.”

Wonder if the workers feel the RUG has been pulled from under them …

Bet I am on the CARPET for that one …

Its on the BBC site

Yeah that’s really funny Rog in an area where there’s not a lot of jobs about :unamused: :unamused:

Yeah, no work down here for drivers as it is. :unamused:

More British jobs will go unless the company can be saved!, if not Chinese manafacturer will buy rights to use the name! I remember the AEC’s from the 70’s iirc Mercurys ?

Another sad episode, a great company, with excellent and well turned out lorries.
Used to have a regular night in morecambe with one of their drivers in the early 90s.
Lest hope there’s a savior

there ERF parts been popping up on ebay over last 3 months i bought a e series under bumper spoiler ,they even delivered [when passing]

Very sad for the works if they go under, but ask yourself the question when did you last buy an Axminster carpet or could afford too? Also how many of us have laminated wooden floors? Me for one having a large dog, carpets use to smell doggy.

we got an axminster in the best end only thing is we never use it .

You’ve hit the nail on the head, the market for expensive carpets is pretty limited now. 99% of the population will happily buy laminate flooring or a carpet from Carpetright etc for £10 sq/m whereas something from Axeminster is £50 sq/m

Bad taste and then some, coming from the glassback it’s very ironic.

I cant afford Axminster, going to Lidl tomorrow for a 30 quid rug, great shame for the 400 staff though. It is a sign of the times after Brintons, Wilton and Axminster have lost a small but expensive market place.

The rise of laminate flooring and stripping back floorboards can have helped. Also in the past people would pay the premium for an Axminster carpet as they knew it would last years. Nowadays lots of people will buy a cheaper carpet as they look at renovating every couple of years.

How can you not use a carpet?

Do you mean it’s still rolled up in the attic, awaiting a prostitute?

I sold them some deck boards, didn’t know their fleet was so highly regarded.

Shame about the jobs and the brand being lost/exported.

I would imagine a vehicle polish supplier will be getting worried too!

Immaculate trucks, not so sure about the carpets tho as I couldn’t afford one!

Small bright side is this will give the rest of us a glimmer of hope in winning at Truckfest now!
