if for example you went through a 40 zone at 38 but between the last 2 cameras you crept up tp say 44 just for a cpl of mins then got back to 40 would you be ok ?
If you want to be sure you would have to 36 for the same amount of time you did 44 for.then the folk you just passed could call you!

I exceed most speed limits by 10% (where I reckon it is safe to do so)
because I’m a Cowboy but I have not killed anyone yet or been done for speeding.
However they would do me if I caused an accident.
(I am a campaigner for 50mph motorway speed limits to
be increased to 56mph because I believe that alterations
to HGV’s speed create some incidents.

The way you are saying it, you’re talking about a stretch with multiple cameras/junctions.
The cameras work independently so going too fast between camera 3&4 will trigger a ticket even if you’ve been well below the average between cameras 1&3.
Dieseldoforme, 50mph is a speed we can all achieve (except tesco) whereas increasing it to 60 will still create a differential between vehicles increasing the chances of a crash.
I say 60 because I don’t think they’d ever introduce at 56mph speed limit.
it was quiet literally prob less than a min you no when you just drift over a bit

Where you have 3 cameras for each lane on a motorway, I’ve always wondered
if you pass a batch of cameras in Lane One - would it record your speed if
you passed the next batch in Lane Two ? ? ?

I only say 56 because I think that the majority of limiters are set at that speed.

A copper in the family (DCI) reckons the tech cannot pick up lane changes but I won’t put it to the test. OP, you’ll not get nipped for those speeds.

I understand that. If I was in charge my OCD wouldn’t allow a number that’s not rounded up to a fraction of 10.
With regards lane 12&3, I think this may have been the case when specs cameras were new but as technology has evolved I don’t think it matters what lane you’re in now.
Average Speed Cameras (Specs) work in pairs, an “entry” & an “exit” camera. A digital image is taken as you pass the entry & another as you pass the exit these are then sent to a central computer where the average speed is calculated using ANPR.
They don’t use Radar or Laser measuring so one Specs on it’s own can’t work out speed.
There is no way of knowing which 2 cameras in a batch are paired… if there are 4 cameras it might be 1-4 or 1-3 or 2-3 etc. It may even be 2 pairs eg 1-3 & 2-4
Lane changing used to fool them but not now & they do work at night. Generally they have a fairly large tolerance built in so you may get away with 47-48 in a 40 but don’t test it

I think you’ll find the speed limit on motorways is 60?
Or was that a typo error?
I remember when the speed limit used to be 50mph for LGV’s on dual carriageways!
I’m old school( old habits are hard to break) so I still do 50mph on dual carriageways and I’m always getting overtaken by the muppets in taught liners ( other curtain sided trailers are available) chasing their tail for minimum wage!!

I didn’t make myself clear. I do understand all speeds limits.
But I’m talking about whenever the speed limit on the motorway is
reduced from 60 or 70 to 50 mph for all vehicles.
I’d like to see the speed reduced to 56mph not 50mph.
Variations in the speed of an HGV would not then fluctuate
as much as they do now, e.g. when approaching roadworks.
I believe that traffic flow would increase and fewer shunts would occur
if the limit was 56mph instead of when it’s 50mph.

Probably a good idea as the limit for lorries on dual carriageways hasn’t changed from 50mph.

Am I missing something here?
The speed of all traffic fluctuates when going into a 50mph limit at roadworks (It has to slow down - the whole point of the speed limit). How would sitting on the limiter through roadworks reduce shunts? If you can’t drive at a steady 50 without needing an electronic device to hold the speed for you, you are possibly in the wrong profession.
Since when has a taut liner changed in to a “taught” liner.Who is the muppet now?

Yes.
56mph would mean less speed fluctuation. Less shunts.
Wrong “profession” ? ? ? It’s just a job that almost anyone could do.

Over the years I’ve run through loads of a.s.c over the limit purely by forgetting there there( normally early hours and I’m tired), I’ve never had a ticket yet and a regular cammera I did this on was a s/c 40 mph limit and I was on the limiter ,56 ish,so I’d not worry, the chances are about.00000001%

Thing is can the ANPR system be used identity the type of vehicle, unlike some fixed cameras?
