I passed my class 1 when i was 22 as the company i work for paid for me,i’m now 33 and was the youngest till a couple of years ago only 1 person younger than me.
At 22 i was sat in the passenger seat of a brand new version 2 FH having a cuppa when a guy came over and said “When ur dad gets back can u ask him to put it on bay 2!” … I nearly cried, cheecky bugger!!!
I’m 32 now and out of over 150 drivers at our place i bet there aint 5 or 6 younger than me!

gogzy:
im 24, passed class 2 at 21 and class 1 at 22, always been the youngest driver at places.
Get all the enjoyment and laughs you can Gogzy, it passes in the blink of an eye !
You mean we’re allowed to laugh in this job? When are we supposed to do that then??
Well you can whinge and moan it won’t get you anywhere ! and the pay is a good laugh isn’t it !
I dont whinge or moan anymore much to the surprise of my new employers the other lads never stop
Saying that the pay certainly is a joke Keeping my eye out though and got an app in to another decent looking firm who advertised an “excellent salary” so if it is more then £7 an hour they wont be wrong
You’re wet behind the ears for driving class 1 commercially, Gogz, that’s all.
I started at 23, I’m 34 now, and am one of the younger drivers at our place… Although that’s probably because it’s very much a retirement job for old heavy haulage and Continental hands on account of how we work. Standing joke is that they like you to be a minimum of 60 with 35 years experience.

You must be indeed, but since I consider myself VERY much a junior driver with a FULL 10 years tramping behind me, you must still be a newbie. Logical, see?

won’t do anything to increase your chances of getting a decent job within the HGV industry.
I wouldn’t be too sure!
I phones a low-loader company about a year ago. Explained my [low loader] experience and other industry related qualifications (managed to get quite a few through work over the years) and his reply was “Wow! That’s quite impressive! Have you got your Driver CPC?” When I told him I hadn’t (at that time) he siad to call him back when I had!!!
