22 years old here looking to do classs 1 soon too
I’m 25, but feel more like 45.
I’m 21, passed my class 2 last May.
I’m the youngest out of our 8 drivers, the second being 24.
i’m 36 and i’m the youngest person in the company! the next oldest is 38 and all the rest can put another 10-15 years on me. hell, we’ve got trailers older than me!!!
33 - I can get away with saying that now, but 34 in a couple of weeks
I was young when I started on the busses, old women would wait for the next bus because they thought I’d stolen it lol.
By time I did my truck test, I was about average at 29.
I’m 27 and at the moment I’m the youngest, the bosses son is 18 and I hear he’s getting trained up to join the firm, god knows what the insurance is gonna be like, we did have a 23 year old start for us but the insurance wouldn’t let him drive without a co driver or something like that?
As for the rest they’re in the 35-45 age bracket with a couple near retirement age and two in their 70s, ones a casual driver and and the other still works full time.
At 57 I’m the oldest driver at our place, but there’s no one less than 40. I can understand that youngsters aren’t going to bother putting themselves through the training and tests just to work for peanuts, or worse still not at all. Sooner or later companies will be forced to recruit non licence holders to train up simply to be in the buisiness of running trucks.
Well i’m 41 and a C+E driver for 3 years and have been driving only since 1999 (car test) all 1st attempt except for C on second attempt.
Some might know i work for the “GREEN DEATH” for those 3 years, but like others have said no experience (2years) was the reason i started with them in 2007 and only intended to stay there for the 2 years but then came the downturn and i have a young family to support
20 years old, and been driving for 1,5 years now. Finished school in june -09 with CE, ADR Class 1 and some other great stuff.
But maybe I don’t count in here 'cause I’m not a british driver…
Im 47 and am one of the younger one
s at our dump, sorry place of work.Only started driving when I was 35 and am still most of the time trying to figure out why im sat in a metal box when i
ve got a nice comfy bed at home.
I’m 23 passed my C+E at 22, seen a few young lads but never seen another young girl driving. I find it hard to get work because of my age, all the agencies and most of the companies around here want you to be 25 or older so not suprised if there aren’t a lot of us on the road.

i mentioned before in another post a DCPC trainer noticed the average age of drivers was now in the 35’s & over & he was seeing very few drivers in their early 20’s or late 20’s .I have also has been noticed on the wannabe drivers & newbies board , someone did point out , this is the only industry drivers actually discourage new drivers from wanting to be lorry drivers ! although to be fair , when someone passes we all give him praise & support & good luck in his new carreer however down trodden we all feel at times !
The youngest driver on our fleet 40-50 drivers is 26yrs old
me i passed at 21 & i’m now 40
You are bang on there mate. Its crazy!
