That is just magnificent! Do you have any more pics of ancient Britons heading east?

There must be loads of stories that wagon could tell.

spot on there andrew i salute that bloke all that way in a scammell brilliant pic im very envious as i didnt do that job regards rowly

Yep what a great pic,all that way in a Handyman with a 180 Gardner, what a legend. Can you imagine how long that trip would have taken and all the Scando’s that would have passed him in their 141’s and F89’s.

I bet she would have worked hard on some of those pulls in Eastern Turkey and where did old mate kip and the end of the day, accross the seats?

Good on him,he would have to have been a subbie,I can’t see a company man being too keen to do the trip in the old banga’

The don’t make truckies like they used too.

hello flysheet

i worked for big kris kristiansen(viking) 1989-90 i used to enjoy his stories of the middle east runs when he worked for van hee and also jimmy hill (SHAGGER) i still keep i touch with them, we had the north east drivers drink at xmas thats the last time i had a pint with them, heres a photo of the lorry i had when i drove for kris, this thing would have been no good where the M/E drivers took their lorries.it would have shaken the cab of its mountings
Kris and jimmy were 2 good guys to work for.

regards mark

Couldn’t agree more, it’s pictures like that, that make you realise why we once had an Empire

Hi all. That old Scammel makes my ERF with the gardner 150 look like a '‘proper’'truck,if only because I had a sleeper.Mike

It’s been said on here before,a German driver was alledged to have made the remark,“No wonder you English won the war,you have to be tough to drive a truck like that on this run!”

Hi Chris, check out what’s left of a “Big J” I took this June 1977 Syria/Jordan border, quite sad really, I always liked the big J with the Eagle Diesel, highly underrated.

Thanks John - is that a bit of a wimp motor though, having a sleeper conversion? Seriously, though, you really do have to take your hat off to the chaps that headed off to exotic far and distant lands in motors like that

I’m sure you must have seen quite a few that made only a one-way journey? Then you came to Pandoro and saw plenty you wished someone would send (away) one a one-way journey!

I can assure you the term nutter wasn’t meant to be derogatory and appoligies if it offended anyone.

I’m sure that Dennis and others will agree that Guy’s power plant looks like a 240 Percy!!!

Take it easy,
