Just an observation, based on my following of this super thread: is the Guy Big J the most-often abandoned Middle East motor?
I saw very few brit made trucks abandoned in the M/E in fact I didnât see many at all really, I remember what looked like a brand new F89 or it might have been an 88 290 with a nice new tilt trailer liveried blue and white and if my memory serves it was Duxbury from Leyland or was it Chorley, it was abandoned at the mirrors where you turn left for Kuwait

Hi zb anorak,
Some were abandoned in Italy
Regards MaggieD
Not many British Made trucks were abandoned in the Middle -East because a lot of them didnât get that far. I can remember bob-tailing down to Nadlac to take over a load that had been left for a month with a Sed-Atki under it. 8 wheel studs gone from one side and 4 from the other on the drive axle. It belonged to an outfit called S & S who were subbing for Fred Archer. It wouldnât start, batteries, mirrors and lights had gone; I had a hell of a job dragging it out from under the trailer. Some of it might still be there.
Cracking pics of the old day cab brit trucks⌠BUT ⌠some of you had sleeper cab 89s 140
s would you have swopped? still good to see new pics.

mushroomman:
Can anybody put any names to any of these photoâs from Jimmy Walker as I recognise only one of the faces.A black trailer with a yellow tilt cover rings a distant bell, could it of been one of Funstones
Think the guy in the shorts has got a badly twisted right ankle.

I have never noticed that before it looks like his foot is on back to front but you took your chances in those Rumanian hospitals, does anybody know who the guy is .
I have only just noticed the M.A.N. issue briefcase that came with every new truck which usually came with an air line and a few spanners.
The guy holding up the bar was Irish John Conneely which was often a normal position for John .
And yes it could well of been one of Funstones trailers, werenât they from the East Anglia area.
I am 99% sure that the driver wearing shorts and standing in front of the maroon Scammell is the late Chrissy Bolt (RIP) from Colchester who I knew when he drove for Oryx, can anyone add to that ? Regards Fred
?
Looking at the rear centre panel of the Man cab,its orange,so its my best bet itâs one of DOWâs?
Take it easy,
David

Hullo Fred,
And the bloke thatâs standing with him, it looks like a young Glen Campbell from Gravesend.
Cheers, Archie.
Archie, unless it was one of the local immigrant workers it does indeed look like Glen and the spare tyre around his middle as in later life would suggest it is him.

I knew Chris very well and youâre right Fred, that does look a lot like him, another one who left us far too young, poor sod only made it to 50
Hi NMM.iâm merely being curious, but how and where did you know Chris Bolt from.I am also from Colchester and worked with Chris in 1972\73 on Seahorse Int,a Harwich based co.I also met him a lot on the ME run when he worked for George the Pole and Oryx.Later during the 80s he stayed at my house in Holland several times.Mike
