Hi Roger.
I noticed that on one of your threads you mention Ian Mellor, would that be the same Ian that ran this smart Foden?
This motor is still on the road spotted it on Alan Turing Way in manchester before christmas , same colours a little faded now though . Not seen Mr Mellor since i was a young lad . Lee Marrow
Sorry Mushroomman but it was’nt me with that load…
Chazzer.
Hello Charlie, somebody put a photo on one of the threads a couple of years ago with access to their Photo Bucket site. I looked through and noticed a photo of one of those loads and there were also a couple of old drivers from the Swindon area. The trouble is now I can’t remember which photo they posted or who the poster was, sorry.
As regards the Ian Mellor Foden from Heywood, I wonder if his dad Wilf is still around as he must be in his eighties by now. I worked with Wilf at Hansons when we used to load Indigo dye out of I.C.I. Ellesmere Port, a couple of specks of that stuff on your sheets used to turn them blue after a spit of rain.
Regards Steve.

He ain’t changed Crow, I saw him the other year, heavy on the metaxa light on the cola was his favourite expression as I recall…

I believe it was Ian Mellor from Heywood who owned my Rear Steer Atkinson in the late 80s - does anyone know if he actually worked it? Kevin Dennis bought it around 1991, but it was certainly off the road by then.
There is a chance for a brave soul with deep pockets to buy an ex astran scania 140. It is in need of major restoration there is a link on the astran Facebook page.
I can’t put a link up as I’m doing this on my phone and it won’t work.

Well McVicar, you didn’t tell me you had been to a reunion. Was it free ale or were you selling a load of old Capo di Monte stuff you had left over from the stall on Blackpool prom.
Report to me with the gory details of the old boys meetup.
John Hunt (black john), Dave Richter (dave the arab), Tehrani Barney, The bloke who ate 3x6 egg omlettes each day (name escapes me) all ex Cantrells but in some cases they were from the Italian days on Cantrells. There were a lot of them, but they mainly did Tehran when on M/E didn’t they?
What was the firm owned by them that was in Black and yellow trim called 75ish?
I’ve got some more photos at home which i will try to post when I go back.
Hope you are on the mend johnHi John, what you doin on here?! you avn’t been further than Watford Gap!! I’m feeling a good bit better, thanks for asking, the bride reckons I’ve still got another trip in me, I keep telling her my Life assurance does not cover dangerous pursuits so her plan is flawed
Hi John, bit late with answering question re the black and yellow trimmed company taken over by Cantrells, have only just found this excellent forum. In answer to your question the company was JC Gerrard, I drove for them and then for Cantrells afterward although we remained in the Black and Yellow livery.
