After four days or so of playing around with the new site I’m finding it easier by the day to navigate, I haven’t used a smartphone to try it yet as I predominantly use a desktop PC.
Same as that.
Assuming you actually see the same as me, when I type a post and have two separate apostrophes, the font changes between them. Yet on your post, you have used two apostrophes and no issues. Wierd.
I didnt get this on t
other site, nor elsewhere.
Not the end of the world, just peculiar.
That is strange, I’ve noticed it a few times.
One of the things I really liked about the old site was that it used the somewhat antiquated php bulletin-board software, a hangover from what I consider to be the Golden Age of t’inty web, from late 90’s to early 2000’s. It felt very comfortable and cooly retro - I’m sorry to see we’ve lost that presentation.
I never found truck net overly user friendly, largely out of my own laziness, but when pitted against other social networks it was behind the times. This new layout is not user friendly at all and very poorly built. I see the TN branding is the same as truck and driver so Dougie Rankine will behind the take over and with good intentions/ ideas for the site so il give it a chance. Just listen to the critique, get professionals to fix the app and crack on
I agree its far too hard to see my post’s
To see your posts on a computor?
There is a side bar on the left… If not there click the 3 bars beside the TN logo top left.
See “my posts”.
.
Also click on your name top right olive colour L.
Second icon (a turn arrow) shows all responses to your posts.
Maybe look at this too. New site 2024 Some of it might be helpful.
In all honesty, no, I’m sure its probably better on mobile but on desktop it is severely lacking.
Not to mention categories are unsorted? I either have all threads in one space or some of all the threads with no categorization at all.
Bad UI is bad UI, you can’t dress it up any other way. You can’t go wrong with a vBulletin style forum so, the change wouldn’t make sense unless it was considerably better for mobile users without penalizing desktop users, that doesn’t appear to be the case though.
This is like a halfway house between reddit and a really dodgy social media platform or website.
I agree with ZacA although I only begrudgingly entered the computer age in late 2000’s and always thought the tnet board was state of the art then and now found it easy and intuitive to use and navigate.
Ironically I gave up on useless laptop computers that seem to self destruct after a couple of years of use and found the old tnet just as easy to use on my much loved, now ‘old’ so they tell me Nokia James Bond mobile phone which I use as much for work as own use.
Nah, it difficult to navigate, the total balls up, IT made of the migration didn’t help.
The loss of photos and threads is disappointing. If IT had any idea what they were doing, they’d have gone with V-bulletin.
I’ll persevere, but you can’t polish a turd.
They tell us that the interweb was/is the solution to everything with gazzillionbytes of storage capacity no more need for all those old fashioned paper storage that worked for centuries. But now they tell us that it can’t even store a few photographs without running out of electronic shelf space.
Some time back @zac_a asked about alerting people they are replying to.
We’ll that is how you do it, press the @ button and a list of posters appears or if not add a couple of the letters of the username.
By me doing this @zac_a should have been notified twice that I have answered him.
A couple of criticisms from me. One I will not mention because it might cause trouble (anybody wants to know PM, sorry DM me) and the other is it seems to have gone American and at least one American swear word, which is not an English one, is now banned.
Thanks to @franglais for alerting me to that.
Is it fanny? Is that the swear word?
No, it was arse and ass
But seems to have been fixed now.
My post has been removed? Ahh nut sack
Vbulletin was prone to hacking, I nearly lost my forum to Syrian hackers. I now use xenforo software, very reasonable price and fantastic customer support.
Its certainly different but managing it ok now. Be reet once everybody is used to it, folk love a good whinge haha
What is the best way to turn off the email notifications when someone replies to one of my posts ■■ and can the green palette in the bottom left hand corner be moved / hidden / deleted. I appreciate what it is there for but I don’t understand half the preferences and I believe it could be in a more suitable place on the screen. Thanks
On a PC, (guessing similar on other devices)
click on your icon top right
click on “Proflie” head and shoulders
click on “Preferences”
click on “e-mails” and select when you do/don’t want notifications.
I just ignore the green circle now it is set how I want it. Always there, but it just fades into the background for me now.
