My favourite of the restored Blakeman Motor Services vehicles encapsulating all that was good about the British truck building industry, more investment at this time or earlier may have resulted in us still building a good quality reliable Great British truck.
ERF C Series, 300 Gardner Engine, Fuller gearbox.
the c series looks well T1 the atki wrecker sounds nice aswell …one of my dads longest friends passed away a few years ago now we went up to see his wife before xmas ,and i did mention photos that robert would have taken (loads of them ) but she said she had sold them to someone at gaydon some time back …so to late again lol
I think they all look and sound great but that c series with the Gardner sounds that bit more special to me.
This Atkinson was used by CTS as a mobile workshop, no job to big for this vehicle, gas cutting gear, welding equipment, generator and the kitchen sink was carried.
Wm Rowe & Sons recovery adding water to a badly damaged Daf eight wheeler to enable the load to be tipped in the old station yard at Elford Nr Tamworth on a very cold morning in the late 80’s
Snow hits Tamworth in 1947, it looks like the snow is been shovelled into the back of F J Hall’s vehicle, i have no idea who they were! anybody?
Smurfit sold its Paper Mill on Lichfield road Tamworth for house building and moved up to the yard CTS had operated out of for many years at Birch Coppice, Smurfit Kappa still operated out of this yard today.
Probably one of the things that Tamworth is most famous for is the three wheeler Reliant Robin car known affectionately as the plastic pig due to its construction out of Fibre Glass. Reliant did make a three and four wheeled light commercial from its factor on the old A5 at Two Gates Tamworth a place that alot of people i talk to remember passing on there way through Tamworth. Reliant was no different to any other british vehicle manufacturer and eventually closed its doors for the last time in the 90’s, Houses now stand where vehicle manufacturing had been carried out since 1935.
That’s a great picture mate, where did you dig that one from? Where is the picture taken?
