That is one tidy motor T1,and a credit to whoever restored it.I note that it is a C40,ours were C38’s because they all had the Eaton drive axle and not the Kirkstall D85 HR axle fitted to the C40’s.While the D85 axle was trouble free IMO you didn’t require a hub reduction axle for normal road going work.Cheers Bewick.
I’ve been restoring it over the last two years so hope you feel better on how your levy money was spent!
Thanks for clearing the model number up I wasn’t sure if it was a c38 or 40, regards T1

Oh! so I guess my congrats are for you then T1,thats a ■■■■■■ Seriously, well done mate it is a beaut it sure is,I take it that the engine is an 8LXC same as ours had fitted. Here’s a shot of my favourite ERF stood brand new in the depot January '76.I bought it from ERF dealers HLH of Whiffler Rd. Norwich in Nov '75.It was a real little gem for us,never put a foot a wrong or let us down and ended it’s days as our Trailer/tyre fitters yard motor.Cheers Bewick.

Thanks for the congrats Dennis but lets not over do it ha ha. Yes it has a 8LXCT, love your A series top motor in there day have been looking to do one next but now have another C series with NTE290. Regards Andy
Andy you say that your C40 is fitted with the 8LXCT Gardner, our last batch of ERF’s (C38’s) and SedAtks had the non turbo’d 8LXC,I never fancied the Turbo’d Gardner, although I might have “chanced my arm” with the 300bhp Gardner if the price had been “interesting” but the oppertunity never presented itself.I had also gone off ■■■■■■■ when they brought out the 250 (non turbo) and although we got some demonstrators onto the fleet occaisionally with the E290 engine they were too thirsty for my liking and the Scanias knocked them into a “cocked hat” on every comparison,no contest,Cheers Dennis.
Yes Dennis it’s got the 300 in, we never ran any turbo Gardners but when looking for something to restore thought it would be a good idea when this one came along, I’m a big fan of the 14 litre ■■■■■■■ so looking forwards to getting my next c series sorted. Wouldn’t mind doing a Roadtrain after that !
J. Clarke Transport Ltd was still running this ERF EC up to about eighteen months ago mainly presenting trailers for MOT and collecting trailers for workshop repair. It is still used today but only for shunting trailers into the workshop and around the yard.
Does anyone remember Browns? He used to have a small yard, opposite the Park Inn, in Kettlebrook. Only had a couple of old Leylands if I remember rightly, he’d occasionally come up to Aucotts, when I worked in the garage, to get parts.
