anyone remember these tamworth firms

windrush:
Why cant I recall the Ponda Rosa, I must have passed it teens of times when running from Hints and Mancetter quarries? Only place that springs to mind is Maria’s Cafe but that was t’other side of Mile Oak lights.

Pete.

Pete I dont know how you missed it either, as you came up the old A5 from Fazeley it was on the Left hand side about three quarters the way before you got to Mile Oak lights, Wm Rowe & Sons vehicles parked there to. It was sold for building in the mid 80’s and now has bungalows built on it, it is now called Brewster Close. Regards Andy

Ah well Andy, I didn’t really travel that route much until the mid to late eighties so it may well have gone by then! Being a tipper driver cafes were alien objects anyway, no money earned sitting in them. I do recall a transport company that ran ERF’s on the left heading towards Fazeley from Mile Oak though, and of course the ‘plastic pig’ factory on t’other side of the lights!

Hi Pete, the transport company at Fazeley was R E Aucott (REA) who also ran vehicles in the names of Gibbons and Washingtons they were companies REA had took over. That plastic pig factory is now houses and is where I live

Dennis, how far is Beetham from Tamworth?

I know that Bassetts Pole is not strictly in Tamworth, but I am trying to recollect the name of the road haulage firm based at the garage there on the old crossroads, next to the Happy Hour cafe. IIRC they ran a good old mix of makes - Leylands, ERFs - or is my memory failing me?
