Lovely air conditioning,Eaton twin splitter gearbox, bring some wooden planks to sleep on.
Maybe not to Milan, but it wouldn’t be the first time I slept across the engine cover in one of them.
And just to be pedantic (clever ).that B series I would estimate to be around 77 ish, it wouldn’t be a twin splitter , more like a Fuller roadranger, maybe even a David Brown box…as far as I recall the Eaton twin first apoeared in the C series late 80s.
Awaiting to be shot down in flames on this. …(just like Jesse James.

The bossman said he has an A reg with a Gardiner gearbox but not the Charlie Dimmock ( Was very fit but let herself go) Alan Titchmarsh or Percy Thrower type of gardener.

C’mon Tobes,.I shouldn’t have to tell a man of your calibre…there ain’t no such animal as a Gardener GEARBOX.
One hitter to Milan, no handball “a proper” truck. Where is Carryfast? This could finally be his big break.
Carryfast is just Googling A Frame trailer limitation and strategy for his thesis and dissertation.
Is it an ERF? Picture is too small

I’ll name that tune in one.
Years ago I did an agency run from Poole to South Wales in one of these ERF’s with said 'box. It was a drop and swap job.
Strangely considering it was totally new to me everything went quite well until I was leaving Bath on the A36 hill on the way back - I came to a standstill and had to start over
The truck was an absolute nail in many ways and I was glad to get in my car and go home.

Quite a few mate, but must of them had a 14 (or 18) speed Fuller, only drven the ETS a couple of times, but much preferred the Fuller.

I worked for Frozen Fare in the early 70’s when they were in Wetherby. Drove a Volvo 86 then a Volvo 88.
I used to have to drive an ERF eaton twinsplitter when I worked at Leggetts,it was a complete nightmare, every time I got to a roundabout and selected a gear,it would crunch like ■■■■,and I dont mean like a car.It would almost dislocate my arm from the shoulder.
Its funny, when I told the other drivers, one of them said the eaton splitter was one of the best gearboxes ever.A few weeks later I watched him drive out the yard crunching away, lol

FF in Carlisle at that time were either owned or were part of J&W Watt Transport Carlisle…that pic was taken around 84 ish.
We only pulled their trailers for about a couple of month or so as far as I remember,.was never very good on fridges, couldn’t sleep for the ■■■■ things.
I tried again mid 90s on Frigoscandia, but my beauty sleep was suffering something awful.
In fact I can’t believe how good looking I still am today despite all that.

Nowt to do with the box mate…all to do with your driving.
A mate of mine who used to run them who was away, rang me and asked me a favour to go and check on one of his new drivers who said he ‘‘could not get a gear’’ on one of his ERFs.
The guy got in the passenger seat and looked at me as if I had done some sort of ■■■■ magic act when I drove it up the road and back for a few miles.
The old adage of drivers and screwdrivers.
Robroy is spot on. Fuller 9 and 13 speed best boxes ever. Apart from setting off and stopping you didn’t even need to use the clutch. As the man said.Drivers and screwdrivers.

mmm,ok,but if you are approaching a roundabout, you dont know when you need to accelerate away, how do you know the right gear(out of 12) to choose?
Gidders.
I have held a clean license for 30 years.I have passed all my tests first time(except the advanced driving test),even the motorbike test ,I passed first time, psv classes 1 and 3,first time pass, not blowing my own trumpet, but youre telling me Im just a screwdriver!

No I think he’s telling you that you can not drive a truck with a non synchro box…the fact you have to ask me how you know which gear you are in does not do you any favours.
Fair enough if you have never came across them or never bern shown, but I find it strange coming from a driver with 30 years experience.
