Probably not the best graph to illustrate with as the second biggest spike occurred a few short days after the first Covid vaccinations were run out. Just saying.
Mistakes ? Jesus [zb] wept.
Yeah I too get those emails for mechanic jobs all over the place offering good money. I doubt thats because the vaccine killed most of them off
More likely that not many people want to do the job anymore. I certainly donāt miss it.
Give the majority of young starters today a choice between a spanner and tik tokā¦ think we know what theyād choose.
As I was coming out of the garage and into driving full time the apprentices were more interested in ā ā ā ā ā ā ā about on their phone than learning the job.
My lad who is service manager at Ford, (cars) has trouble getting good mechanics, but he reckons itās because nobody wants to do the job anymoreā¦ cos the money is crap.
Aināt that familiar? Nobody seems to want productive jobs anymore. They all want to start at the top as agents, dealers and middle men, making their (more) money from the sweat of someone elseās brow.
Biggest problem is schools donāt teach trades anymore only āprofessionsā
Yes, after the war we had Technical Schools, which were brilliant for picking up the non-academic but clever kids. Getting rid of grammar schools threw out the Technical Schools with the bath water. Post 1944 Education Act, we had a three-tier system: secondary modern schools, technical schools and grammar schools. Then comprehensive schools came in and made everyone equal. Yeah, right.
I heard a worrying statistic tāother day. Excuse me if I get the actual percentages wrong btw, but apparently ten years ago the biggest sector in the American workforce was 30% employed in retail. Today (allegedly) the biggest sector is āinternet influencersā whatever TF that is?
Itās a sad indictment that thereās more money to be made creating content that there is in creating machinery/buildings/ metal work etc.
When I was at high school, we all attended the same campus, but followed different courses, A for academic, B for technical/commercial and C for the less fortunate.
Nowadays it is far more customizable, whereby kids can pick subjects that lead into their career aspirations and/or pique their interest.
They can mix advanced maths, English in society and woodwork.
We used to have that kind of flexibility here until we became hidebound in trying-to-please-everyone burocracy that levelled everything downwards.
Thinking about doing all that āInfluencerā stuff myself mateā¦those ā¦'kers are making a fortune out of it my kids tell meā¦
Gonna be āRob Royā ā¦ āThe BLOKEā influencerā.
Getting people to go to pub on a Sunday afternoon, with mates, (preferably Spoons at Ā£1.70 a pint,) dressed in a football shirt that is far too tight for their dodgy shape, swear belch and fart at the bar, interspersed with comments likeā¦ āLook at the arse on that ladsā and āDo ya like chicken darling,.have a taste of this itās foulāā¦but make sure the bouncer is your mate.
Have about 12 pints, scrounge a lift home somehow.
Then go home pi55ed and get guys to jump into bed with their angry Mrs and demand sex ā¦but get a punch in the mouth instead which sends you to sleepā¦job done.
Well it works for me over the years, might as well make a few quid out of it.
Good luck with the career change mate, just a quick word of advice, make sure the mortgage is paid out before the move.
may have changed as its years since i lived in the Highlands but there was quite an undercurrent of hostility if youre English moving onto their turf. Actually a family member called in more recently at the small town where we had lived, only a 1 night stopover but the jungle drums started beating and he heard [later] some locals were planning to āget himā but hed moved on just in time
^^^^^^
Why does āDuelling Banjosā spring to mind.
what the hell is āenglish in societyā or have i read your post wrong
Very basic English, no hosts of golden daffodils or out damn spot out, type of stuff. There is also Maths in Society. Other kids cruelly call them respectively vegie maths or English.
Scotland?
Or East Anglia or Yorkshire? Clacton?
Some (not all) locals are frit of incomers almost everywhere.
this was in Caithness . But you are correct can be same anywhere . Downtown Ipswich iv a small sideline biz and because im not a local i was mistrusted for YEARS . If id been "marys boy from the next street " itd been easier.
Actually a lady i know who is Irish was telling me that when she first moved to Ipswich in the 60s there were signs up outside letting rooms etc No Blacks,no Irish .
One Caithness incident has stayed with me . Down near the harbour was a fishermans cottage ,one springtime i was by the harbour when the old fisherman wanted a hand to refit an engine into his small boat.He had it rebuilt and him and 4 others lifted it down into the boat,it was like a car engine in size.Anyhoo it gently went into place and we stood back, the fisherman said in a gentle voice excuse me lads ,just one thing ,iv got a finger trapped below the engine bracket.Quickly we lifted it and he showed us his finger was mangled to ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā he never cried out
Flu didnāt ātotally disappearā when COVID was on the go, it spread less as people were interacting less. And of course most people who died of COVID were in hospital, that is (generally speaking) where people tend to go when theyāre seriously unwell. As for old folkās homes, the clue is very much in the name. They are HOMES full of OLD FOLKS. A fall that might skin your palm would likely break old Ethelās hip and both wrists, so it only stands to reason that any disease that may cause you discomfort will also be far more serious for her.
Itās not rocket science, but you must be drinking rocket fuel on the regular to actually believe tripe like that.
