hi all - i am an owner driver for cemex or cemtex as we like to call them - they are a crap firm to work for - they do NOT appreciate their drivers - they do NOT appreciate their customers - they have a dreadful management structure and i for one cannot understand how the hell we are still in business

so, why stay there?

so, why stay there?

Probably the same problem as with all the other so called “owner driver” schemes run by the quarry/aggregates/cement companies - you’re tied in by a 3 or 5 year contract and finance on the vehicle that makes it nigh on impossible to quit.

That’s not true mate, I can walk away at any time, no matter how much I still owe on my truck.

They are garuntore(spelling) on all finance deals, i can give the truck back and walk away at any time.

True, 28 days notice, sell your truck at market value by an arbitrator to the company

You can chuck the keys back anytime you like, as mentioned earlier the company takes the hit, ours are in house, they may huff and puff but they ain’t gonna blow your house down.

Paul? Did you all park up couple of weeks ago?

Lafarge bought a shed load of renualt tippers, but the readymix transport manager didnt rate them!! was offering the Daf, or a 10K deposit for the Scanie!!!

one of the renaults at the open day at mountsorrel

and one of the new dafs at the open day

0and one of the new dafs at the open day

What size is the header tank on that? too small for the truck thats for sure.
I was at APD in March. They mentioned Lafarge had specified very small header tanks from McPhee

i think the transport manager said it was a 250 lt tank, far too small in my opinion, but the big companys dont like you adding too much on site because of comebacks, thats why on the newer mixers theve got electronic water gauges on the truck linked to there computers so has they know exactly what you are adding, its like big brother

When I’ve got time later I’ll give full run down of the pricedure of verify on it works, what the driver has to do and why they do it.

The concept of or all is very good idea and when it works it’s very good but as usual everything is in favour of Tarmac.

I was invited to the Tarmac and verify meetings last year and they say by 2015 all concrete firms will be using it and it become standard on new trucks.

No worries with verify system ,our customers are ahead of the game (my 8metre has 180litre tank!)hose on site connected to hydrant then up the ladder into charge hopper “give it a good spin drive we only take p**s here mate”

Been there, done it but the verifi system picks all that up and we’ve had drivers warned over it.

Tarmac really are big brother!

Anyone any news on the Tarmac/lafarge merger?

The verifi procedure for mixer drivers:

The batch will send a message (ticket) from his computer to the truck verifi computer in the cab. When the truck receives the ticket the will be a horn bleeping to notify you that you have a load (you press a button to accept the ticket sbd the horm turns off). On the computer in the cab you will see what slump and what amount you’ll be loading.

You back under the batch and load as you would now. When the batcher has finished loading you and slumped it what he thinks is correct, you then pull from under the plant and spin your drum to 11000 revs, the computer will then start a count down of 35 turns, once the 35 turns are up the computer will detect the slump and add more water thru your truck if needed. If the verifi does add water then you have to spin it a extra 15 turns at 11000 revs. When count down is complete you knock the revs off and the verifi will let you know what slump it is. (it also tvs you how much water it’s added).

When all the turns are complete you can now set off to site but first must press the TO SITE button which then records what slump you left the plant. On the way to site of the slump drops out the slump range it will then add water it’s self on the way to site but Tarmac insist you have your drum spinning at now lesss than 3 and no more than 6.

When you arrive at site, you’ll need to press AT SITE button which then records what slump the load arrived on site.

If when on site the customer wants it wetting up, you add it thu the verifi which counts up in in red digi lights and must also do another 15 spins of your drum mixing at 11000 revs and all wate must be shown on tickets.

When your empty you press the FINISH LOAD button.

When you get Back the plant the truck computer sends all the info off the load back to the batches computer which sends it to Tarmac head office and to America where its stored. It will tell you what slump the batcher first got it to, if the verifi added water, what slump it was when you left the plant, if it added any water on way to site, what slump when you arrived on site, if you added any water and what the slump was when you finished tipping.

It also tells them, how fast you’ve spun drum when loading, how fast you have drum spinning when driving, if you’ve not done your 35 turns, if you’ve not done your 15 turns if you’ve added water etc

Any questions? Hahaha
