Utter shambles and they just trying to get themselves out the sh** as they stuck with new trucks on order with no drivers to buy.
Your probably right there. They will be losing about 750 OD`s minimum
But what is Tarmac/lafarge getting out of all this? They have hardly any plants, no way they can service any jobs as the gap between jobs is huge.
Cemex and bardon have moved in on some of our work and took to housing jobs off us. Cemex £15 per meter cheaper (that’s from our rep) and Tarmac won’t drop prices or haggle as per usual.
Will Tarmac/lafage be pulling out the concrete business because I can’t see how possibly they can stay with the little amount of plants they have left.
The best bit was on the other side
Lafarge bought a shed load of renualt tippers, but the readymix transport manager didnt rate them!! was offering the Daf, or a 10K deposit for the Scanie!!!

Its been known for a long time (2007)Anglo American have been trying to get rid of Tarmac. Like [zb] on their shoe!
The smaller they are, the easier to sell. Only a matter of time before Anglo sell their stake in Tarmac/Lafarge

I got one Monday.
Every concrete firm will be on red alert now and trying to pinch work off Tarmac because nobody is interested at the moment.
I rang our rep today to tell him this job was using cemex as from tomorrow as their rep been round and he replied " don’t blame them mate, we £15 per meter more than cemex, I don’t know why they used us coz we give them a crappy price. We just can’t compete with Hanson, cemex or bardon coz they like little birds cheap cheap cheap"
He went on to say “I’ll prob be working in tesco anyway”

Thats Been obvious but how the hell they going to service any job?
They got no plants left. Round our way, they got Liverpool and then the next plant in 30 odd mile away in Manchester where they will have 6 plants!!!

What sort of monthly payments we looking at on Volvo or Daf?

They wont. Same as Cemex down our way. Anything bigger than 80 cube they turn it down cos they can
t supply cos they havn`t got the trucks or are too far away.
SO, We do it!!!
Our rep mentioned a firm called Quinn in Ireland as a rumour to be looking at buying plants. They have their own cement and would bring it over on the ferry.

A driver near us bought 06 Scania for 30k. One week after buying it the pressure plate went, new clutch = new PTO = £4,500.
Following week the starter went = £400
The is 6 Scania in our area, all of them have had clutch/PTO done, one has had it go twice in 3yrs.
Expensive parts!

If the clutch goes you have to replace the PTO as well and the same if the PTO goes you have to replace the clutch.
Crazy crazy idea and wouldn’t touch a Scania if it was free. They great trucks, great drive but not for a mixer due to PTO.

Okay i get it, you lot dont like the Scania! So which is the best mixer truck?? Couple of guys this way have 08 Dafs, and both have had trouble with the add blue system, resulting in a new exhaust/Cat, Not cheap, also i think the rear springs on the Daf look a bit lightweight, just an opinion

I’ve got Daf on 08 plate and had no trouble with adblue (touch wood) but I know one driver on 58 plate and two drivers on 09 plate who’ve all had adblue problems.
The rear springs are weak and not good enough for site work like we do on the mixers.
I’m not a great fan of a Daf buy they are cheap and cheap parts.

A local guy had the same on his DAF with the adblue. BUT he had been using old oil drums to transport the adblue to his trucks. You CANNOT use anything but Adblue containers for transporting Adblue. The slightest contamination causes major problems.
The Scanie has one fault as a mixer and it is a MAJOR one as mentioned above. Okay the insurance company covers goods in transit and a new drum for £50 excess but you are still looking at a week min downtime and the costly repairs to the truck.
Springs go on mixers after a few years. Ive had Volvo, and 5 Mercs but can honestly say I
ve only had to replace 2.
Mercs are renowned for turbos blowing, filling the intercooler and exhaust system with oil, all have to be replaced for about £3500.
Also the pto shaft for a Merc puts a lot of pressure on some bearing behind the pto causing engine failure in quite a few if oil isnt changed regularly and it isn
t the right grade.

Think I’ll try Volvo next time.
I’ve had trouble with my brakes on my Daf.
mixers are a pain in the backside, get a tipper instead ,simples
