are moving trucks around with NO consultation with OD,s

Thats because they are not proper OD’s.

Next year after Tarmac have sold us off to Joe bloggs and I have to get my own HP ( cos they`ve just stopped financing new trucks), insurance, tax and diesel Please can I be a proper O/D then…Pretty Pretty Please

I sse from CM this week that Bardon/Elite are advertising for mixer franchisees in various locations.
Wouldnt have thought that there was a need for “additonal capacity”, in these interesting times, would you?

Bardon/Elite, may be requiring franchisees due to the amount that have packed in this year. I was told that they were short of trucks in the Lancs region, because 25 franchisees had handed their trucks back due to lack of concrete orders in the area.
With regard to Anglo/Lafarge, the 17th of October, is the EARLIEST date that anyone will gain any information as to the new owner of the NewCo. As of today (15th October 2012), Breedon Aggregates have oficially pulled out of the bidding due to the high value of the assets on sale. It is thought however; that they may be interested in picking up parts of the business where there are overlaps. ie: Tarmac and Lafarge both have a plant in Sheffield for example, NewCo may wish to divest one of those plants to a third party. Enter Breedon for the extra plant.
According to media sources, Lakshmi Mittal does have a bid in, but it is believed to be in the name of a subsidiary company of his, not Arcelor Mittal. This gets around the Bruno Lafont issue as he would not be a board member of the subsidiary.
It’s not understood at this stage whether CRH have a positive bid in place. Whichever way the bids go, the CC have to stringently vet the proposed buyer, to make certain that the business is run to be competitive, and prosperous for all concerned. The government needs us all to keep paying tax and NI, not be claiming the dole from them !
The RMX plants, are in the deal to ensure that the cement and aggregate parts of the business, have a downstream sales structure from day one. If a truck is based at a certain plant, under the due diligence investigation into the business that is up for sale, these trucks will have been listed as part of that location, and will be forwarded in that part of the deal to remain where they are.

Youre well informed. Thanks for that post :sunglasses: Heard today Lakshmi Mittal is not interested in Newco but Tarmac/Lafarge JV :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

wasnt a surprise to me breedon pulled out of the rmx and cement assets, what were after are the schedule 2b assets off tarmac which include 50% of mqp ,coxhoe and holme hall quarrys and cavenham asphalt plant which will fit well into our present businesses.aggregates are breedons main priority with concrete only impotant as a downstream product .

Couldn`t agree more

Hi, Roadhog,
Have you come across the word, “bankrupt”?

So, surprise, surprise its Mr Mittel with a successful bid of £285 million, subject to final approval by the Competition Commission.

At long last we have found out who the buyer is. just hope they want it to be successfull

Turbans instead of helmets from now on.

Turbans instead of helmets? I’m not so sure that statement is politically correct in this day and age. lol. If we are changing to turbans, do those of us from Lafarge, presumably hang up the berets, stripey jerseys and strings of garlic ?
For those who now “think it’s all over”; I think you’ll find, that it’s only just begun! These deals are taking place under a huge cloud of economic instability within the UK. JVCo, have already announced around 600 redundancies between now, and the end of consultation in early 2014. NewCo (Mittal Investments), surely can’t step off the mark from day one, without mutiple casualties ?
Look to your three largest costs within the construction materials industry. Fuel, Transport, and Personnel.
We’re all cracking jokes on here now about who owns what. One year from now, who will still be laughing?

Quite right, Newco( Mittal) in our area has Lafarge management in place, mind you from reading this forum thank god they aint Tarmac, although not heard who is running transport yet.

Still find all this a bit fishy, who would want to invest in a construction materials supplier in the current economic climate, tp asset strip? what assets? slag is a by product from producing steel, thats a long shot, and the only cement works they are buying is in a national park with restricted vehicle movements!!

Have this major worrythat, like the tanker drivers, this is now a race to the bottom for the cheapest haulage rates, and we have 2 choices

Re-the turban,it may not be politically correct, and I have done a course on discrimination.
The drivers from the Midlands that are Sikh have been into these quarries here and haven’t had to wear a helmet when they get out of the vehicle.
The Employment Act 1989 creates an exemption for Sikhs from the requirement to wear a safety helmet on a construction site. This exemption applies only to the followers of the Sikh religion and not to any other religious group. It also applies only to construction sites and not to any other workplace where a safety helmet may be required

Well the race to the bottom has well and truly begun, a mate who is an O/D with one of the big boys in concrete/aggregates was told at a meeting with management"you guys are holding the company back" (they are all long serving some are 40 year men!) we see the way forward is to recruit Poles or Romanians & assist them with operators licence,TM or operators CPC&drivers CPC and make them O/Ds ( form of slavery known as a bondsman?) :open_mouth:

Could be that your mate is dramatising a little :exclamation:

Has anyone heard how the existing work contracts are going to be split/shared ?

Surely mittal co can’t take all the jobs. Can he ?

We’re heading into the leanest period of the year (work wise). If mittal takes all the work those in jvco will be facing a few months sat on our arses.

Dave, most likely a bit of drama(some O/Ds can be drama queens ) but I think these firms realise that their business model is defunct due to an ageing work force and the inability to attract new blood as no British youngsters are interested!.

Sooner or later these quarry and concrete plant owners, whoever they are will realise that without lorries the goods won’t get delivered. The O/D’s are getting less, and hopefully not many people will come forward to take their place, forcing the plant and quarry owners hand to give a rate increase.
