5 positions created, 4 going to lafarge men, 1 to tarmac.
just about sums up tarmacs management. Or should that be “lack of”
drewster:
tarmac made a 15 million pound loss the first six months this year, not supprising cos theyre giving there concrete away here in telford.nobody can compete on price according to our sales team but they seem to think a busy plant will be worth more when they sell them
We have Shipping/sales ■■■■■■ the job up completeley. block booking 10 hire trucks for a month, est cost £5k per day, but its the OD’s that are subsidising them by doing fewer loads as shipping send them to plants where theyre not needed.
Sooner the take over/merger is finalised the better
Anybody been tod which company their concrete plant is going with after the sell off?

CRH have been visiting plants in south yorks but were not supposed to know its them. Sshhhhhh !!!
…They were around yesterday. No big secret but they are only potential purchasers apparently.
Maybe we`ll get more visits from potential purchasers

haslems must be making a fortune out of tarmac the amount of times ive seen there trucks over the last couple of months.they had a big pour on a few weeks back at the new dawley school for mpb and out of the 8 trucks i saw around that day 5 of them were haslems.where have all the ods gone
Haslems seen to have avery close relationship with all the major players these days,a while back Lafarge had a big flooring job in our area, mostly done by Haslem artics!.The crowd I’m on for have had them in even when not really required &transfers could have covered the extra work, management told the O/Ds “we have to have them if we don’t they might not help us out when we are really busy”.That really busy never came!.If there’s plenty of wagons in the plant any fool can ship concrete
would anyone know if any of the york /pocklington plants are on the list to be got rid of?
cheers
Pocklingon is on schedule 1a of the Lafarge list and
Pockington is on shedule 1a of the Lafarge list and York on schedule 1b of the Tarmac list.
sorry for being dumb, but what does the schedue 1a/1b mean?
thanks
These schedules are in the details listed by the Competition regarding the parts of each company which need to to disposed of ( divestment). There are about 170 listed readymix concrete sites.
again sorry for being dumb, i,m not involved in the companies so don,t understand…
does this mean that pocklington plant is on both lists for disposal?
thanks
If you read all the previous posts, it will give you an idea of what’s going on. In a nutshell both Tarmac and Lafarge,if they want to merge, must dispose of many operations to ensure that they do not have a monopoly. These disposals have been agreed by by the Competition Commission and all must be sold off to one new buyer.
In the case of readymix concrete Lafarge must dispose of 65 plants ( Schedule 1A) and Tarmac must dispose of 108 plants ( Schedule 1B) Locally to you Tarmac - York and Lafarge - Pocklington are both on the list. Slightly further than York , Tarmac must dispose of 14 plants in Yorkshire and Humberside with Lafarge having to dispose of 13 plants in this area. Some towns for the new buyer will have 2 plants e.g Barnsley, Sheffield with many more being very close to each other.
I would imagine that the new company will become the biggest player in Yorkshire and Humberside with this many plants.(27 no).
thanks for that, its something at one of the locations i,m after,

The plant?
Anyone heard any more developments ? Loads of rumours flying round. Hard to tell what’s what.
Seems everyone knows something except the drivers.

What rumours?
Plant staff are signing new contracts for Newco but they can’t tell them who they are signing for.
There are still a few in for us apparently
