Just had a thought
Is the anything to stop Tarmac/lafarge opening plants in the towns/city that the CC have told them to sell ?
if you look at the cc disposal list there are three schedules the first being the cement and concrete assets, schedule 2 being the major aggregate and asphalt sites and schedule 3 being minor rmx, aggregate and asphalt sites.the interesting bit on the bottom of schedule 3 says and any of the rmx assets the cc agrees do not form part of the readymix and cement operations of schedule 1.if you look at the list of rmx plants for sale by lafarge and tarmac you will notice there are towns and citys where they are getting rid of both companys plants, telford for instance where i am lafarge are selling there plant at halesfield and tarmac are getting rid at trench about 3 miles away.who wants two plants in telford there isnt enough work

The still seems massive gaps between tarmac/lafarge plants. For that reason the only way they can function is by opening new plants.

apparentley the plants up for sale are the ones the jv put forward not the cc and aslong has most of them are bought thats all the cc are looking for,if nobody wants them then they stay with the jv.

That’s not true and I know this for a fact.
Tarmac/lafarge did put their list in to the CC, the CC told tarmac/lafarge that they pick which plants are to be sold for the JV to complete and not Tarmac/lafarge.
The reason the CC picks is so its done for fair competion and that prevents tarmac/lafarge picking all best plants and locations.
All plants HAVE to be sold(they have now) for the JV to be signed off. When I asked area manager of Tarmac central what would happen if you couldn’t sell a couple of plants, his reply was " as we’ve got to sell everything on the CC list, if we had x amount of plants we couldn’t sell, then we’d pay a concrete supplier to take it off our hands".
THEY WOULD PAY ANOTHER FIRM TO TAKE THE PLANTS OFF THEIR HANDS!!!
I also know for a fact that Tarmac asked the CC could they swap/keep some plants on the list (my plant being one of them) and the CC said no.

how come then have tarmac been able to keep all there newest and biggest plants in and around london and even manchester to a certain degree.leeds is another good example lafarge have to get rid of there plant which is an ok plant but 450 yds up the road tarmac have kept there modern and probably one of the biggest output plants outside of london thats attached to a tar plant ,mortar plant and even better still a railhead .they have obviously come to a compromise with the jv keeping there biggest better plants to make up for the loss of losing so many .lets be honest a lot of the plants they are getting rid of are old ,small ,claped out and would have needed investment just to keep them running

The are 2 brand new plants near us on the list and 2 that have just had 100s of thousands of pounds spent on it that or on list.
I don’t want to say to much but I have a family member who’s tarmac management and I know for a fact that the CC picked the plants to be on the list.
They was desperate to keep my plant as the is a job which is 500,000 Meters next door to the plant. They asked the CC to consider taking it off the list which he refused.
Tarmac gave a list of 66 plant they wanted on the list which they was told the CC would pick the plants, not Tarmac.

its a job to know what to believe, one person says one thing and someone else another but the sooner it gets sorted out the better for everyone involved, but it still dont make sence.when this thing was announced the one thing lafarge said was that it would increase there presence in the west for there vaps in concrete and then we find out all the plants in the west where lafarge wernt present have to be sold, crazy.if you are a lafarge, tarmac customer around mid wales ,shropshire, herefordshire and north wales then your nearest plants are wallsall, liverpool and cardiff

Tarmac/lafarge was in total shock when the CC sent them the list, I was told the guy heading it on tarmacs behalf fell out his seat.
They are basically starting from scratch and going to “rise out the ashes” so they say but I think it came as huge shock to them.
I’ve got a little feeling site plants will be used by them for very large jobs.

i know from talking to upper management at breedon that one thing they wernt happy about is that alot of the plants have got to be supplied by aggregates by the jv when the plants are based on there sites.

Very true and rumour has it they wanted a quarry as part of the deal. I heard borras quarry.
I don’t blame breedon for that, they would end up paying top price off the JV meaning they can’t compete.

think the jv have got away very lightly on aggregate side of it,considering the amount of quarrys they will now run.
With the anouncement due on Friday, has anyone heard any rumours?
Which organisation is due to make the announcement tomorrow - Competition Commission, Lafarge or Tarmac.
I get the feeling with the many possible complications and scennarios , it might not quite happen tomorrow. Hope i’m proved wrong.
