mixer driver too:
The one plant Tim Hall would want that he managed to get into the Old Llanwern Corus steel works is staying with Tarmac/Lafarge.
There is a huge development starting there soon. It must be 20 square miles. They did try for an airport there to take some load off Heathrow as its only an hour or so away a couple of years back but couldn`t get it through Parliament.
Now there is a whole new town being built on it with hundreds of houses, cinemas, restaurants, retail outlets etc
have tarmac/lafarge chose the plants they are keeping or have they been told which ones they can keep.if its the former then they will probably keep the bigger, newer more efficient plants and where there is greater potential for work.

They was told by the competition commission.
with the customer base tarmac/lafarge have got the plants they have left will be really busy id have thought and probably the miles/radials to jobs will increase too

On the flip side to that, where do they go if they have no work? They are left with very very few plants.
i wonder if the commission has put any constraints on them to stop them reopening some of the plants they have mothballed in the last couple of years or for making aquisitions in the future

I think they have kept that very quite and I doubt the commission even know about it.
I know tarmac wanted to keep our plant but obviously was told they can’t.

But Tarmac are
you are joking i hope
I know they have sent concrete miles and miles by mistake. They sent a load from Coventry to Wrexham and god knows how far that is.
The are loads of stuff like that with Tarmac.
I once took 1 meter of semi dry on 30 racial to a job that was two miles from a plant.

Just because it says Nottingham Readymix on the door they think its from Nottingham
I get the same question asked when I go on transfer to the Midlands. They pick up on the accent and ask where I am from.
When I say, Cardiff, they ask if I brought the concrete with me
I have done a RAD 75 mind. It was from Cardiff to Westbury, Wiltshire. There was a gang down from manchester just to lay the liquid screed in a barn conversion. Bristol Tilcon broke down so I took it from Cardiff because they HAD to have it that day. Took me over 2 hours to get there

Don’t breedon do special mixes? Or have a technical department that does mix designs?

we have a technical department but we never seem to do any special mixes, have had loads of phone calls about special mixes but in the end never seem to do any.somebody rang a few weeks back about foamed concrete and were told we dont do it.lafarge seem to do all the special mixes around here .

You don’t even do foam?
Don’t like the sound of all this. A lot of the jobs we do are tarmacs own mix design for specific customers.
We do foam, toproc, topflow, granite, magnuite(spelling), strux fibres etc

we do fibres & superplaster but thats it for admixtures, its surprising the amount of work we have lost because we dont do the self levelling concrete like lafarges agilia which seems to be more popular than ever around here.i suppose that topflow is tarmacs version
Yes we do all the specials at the moment, hopefully will keep some of them
when we get taken over, No real news from down south, rumour has it 4 bidders have sealed bids in, to be revealed in July!! Sounds like the bloody X factor to me.
Anyhows at present looking to replace my ageing lovely Scania, yes i know i know crappy PTO design and they have never fixed it, so my choice is now the Daf (which i hate with a passion) OR the M A N, cemex seem to have gone big on the M A N, anyone know if they are any good, spoke to a couple of tipper drivers locally, and they loved them, but they wernt OD,S.
